From a young age, A.M. Schmitt was enamored by music - so much so, that he was singing in plays and musicals as early as age 7, growing up listening to Joe Satriani, Steely Dan, Styx, and Dokken (as well as a host of others). It was not till age 13 that A.M. Schmitt even picked up a musical instrument - the drums - and taught himself to play, listening to the same music from his childhood. At age 15, A.M. Schmitt recieved a no-name acoustic guitar - eventually traded in for a no-name single-humbucker electric - and taught himself over the next 15 years by emulating his idols. A stint in Ded Red and a long tenure in The Scenario - as well as his work Jason Kent, Dragenfly and Caustic Burn - have established him on the local music scene.
For the past few years, A.M. Schmitt has been working on his debut guitar instrumental solo EP, titled 'Evolutions'. Combining elements and influences of his idols, Sonic utilizes lush harmonies and pounding rythyms to provide everything from swing-type blues to almost metal. "I use mostly legato, tapping, and linear scale runs - if you want to call them scales.", A.M. Schmitt says. "Any resemblance to actual music is purely coincidental. I only play what my head and heart tells me to".
