Expander is known for following a path that strives away from dominating standards and for constantly seeking new approaches to electronic music, especially in what regards to techno. As dj, he has already performed in Europe’s main clubs and festivals such as Studio 672 in Cologne, Berghain in Berlin, Nitsa in Barcelona, The Cargo in London, Le Pulp in Paris, Culture Box in Copenhagen, Harry Klein in Munich, among others. In 2004, Expander performed at Sonar, where he rocked Sonar Village, the main area of Sonar by day. The following year he played at C/O Pop, in Cologne, presenting the new Soniculture label together with Paul Kalkbrenner.
Considered the main reference for the underground scene in Portugal, Expander is able to move the most demanding crowd, combining technique with his very own style of djing which is normally uplifting, sexy and involving and where people normally feel that they are travelling through music.
By founding Sonic, Expander aimed to create a solid platform for the promotion of new musical concepts, bringing new ideas to the european dance culture, by presenting, on a regular basis, national and international djs and musicians, that bring new and innovative concepts to electronic music. With the promotion of over 100 international events in four years and a Summer Festival – Sonic Fresh - that is now moving towards its fifth edition, Sonic can be considered as one of the most active organizations in Portugal.
For the fourth consecutive year, portuguese Dance Club magazine, who nominated Expander as “Revelation dj of 2003”, “Best electro dj of 2004”, and “Best electro dj of 2005”, invited him to mix one more cd, that was distributed with the June 2007 edition.
In October 2005, the new label – Soniculture – brought out its first release. SONICULTURE001 features Misc. on one side, with the big hit “Le Week-end” and Kalkito & Expander on the other side, with the uplifting techno track “Heinzens Weinzenz Schweinzens!”. The following releases met the expectations of the initial success and counted with fresh tracks from artists such as Jake Fairley, Dalessandro & Expander, Midimiliz, Thinkfreak, Ilar & Hedvall, Expander & Thinkfreak and Landberg & Jacobson.
