About a year and a half ago, Jim Galliardt got tired of playing his songwriting material to his four bedroom walls. Having tons of heartfelt material, some self-taught guitar skills, and a huge hope inside to share his music with others, he finally set out to do what many young guys try- to start a band. How it would happen and where it would go would soon prove that there is a God who still is in the business of miracles. "It has been a long journey with many ups and downs, but a Christ- centered passion is hard to quench," says Galliardt when reflecting on the Sonlit’s rise to success. "It has taken patience to find the right band members, to make the most genuine songs, practice, and find places to play." It has been that patience and passion that has brought the band Sonlit to new heights in the local Christian music scene. In January, Sonlit opened for Curb Record’s newest Christian artist called "Mikes Chair" at Youth Night in Buhler, Ks. A month later, Sonlit released their first EP with CamaFly Records and became determined to organize requested appearances into a summer tour through Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Drummer Aaron Yoder gave the band their name about a year ago and it has stuck with the group’s message- to radiate Christ’s hope and salvation message to those who need rejuvenation. Through upbeat, rocky tunes and sincere worship, Sonlit brings a fun and exciting message that has been soaked up by all ages- especially teens. "Even if we are able to help change one person’s life for the better each night, all the work is worth it," says bass player Stormy John. "We want to start a revolution of people using music to connect their lives with God." From worship services to youth conferences, Sonlit has brought their show to many different venues and has bridged that connection in people’s lives.
With tour dates fast approaching, Sonlit is gearing up to not only spread the word on stage, but also through the airways. The band is going back into the studio to work on two radio singles, called "Sonlit" and "Away From Myself", that should hit local and regional Christian radio in May. "Everyday, we just trust that God has begun something big that He will be faithful to help complete," says Galliardt. "It is great to have a big God behind this."
