I occasionally enjoy reading a good book, but I find so many other things that keep me active, that I don't take the time to read ..... Hell, I'm trying to do as much as I can in the time that I have left.
Music
Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Some of the best jazz ever. R&B from the 50's and 60's....Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Elmore James, John Lee Hooker, Jody Williams and many other blues artists who have created and re-created America's truest musical art form. Also, I love Buffalo Springfield and almost all of the bands that came from the splintering of that bunch, from C,S,N&Y, to Loggins and Messina, to Poco, to Neil Young w/Crazy Horse, to Stephen Stills/Manassas...what a talented bunch - Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Richie Furay, & Jim Messina. Listen to a lot of 60's and 70's rock and new country. And, I still have time to enjoy the classics. In addition to "Bluesville",on XM Satellite radio, I'm also listening to a lot of jazz guitarists: Wes Montgomery, Ken Navarro, Jeff Golub, Kenny Burrell, and Gabor Szabo, among others.
Movies
Man, old Humphrey Bogart films are so great. Also, Randolph Scott, and Jimmy Stewart westerns. I love the old 2 reeler, black and white, "B" westerns and can watch them endlessly. I especially love old mysteries filmed in the 30's and 40's. My all-time fav is probably West Side Story though...very relevant social commentary of the 50's & 60's and just a GREAT list of music from Leonard Bernstein.
Television
Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, Seinfeld, 24, Monk, Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy and The Honeymoners (timeless comedy), Gunsmoke, Rockford Files (Angel cracks me up), Victory at Sea, The Military Channel, The Discovery Channel, National Geographic, .... Looks like I have too much time on my hands
Books
Re-reading as many Zane Grey westerns as I can...mostly, when I am flying. Not much time, otherwise.
Heroes
My Dad, who worked very hard to provide for his wife and five children. He taught us to work hard for what we get and that fair play will always serve you best, in the end. We learned to keep our heads up, even though we grew up poor, and that hard work, and intelligence, was not limited by your social/economic status.

About me: Now that I've retired, I'm looking to pursue music with a passion. Sort of an "anywhere, anytime" attitude. I enjoy playing rock, blues, jazz & concert music. But, I guess I tend to lean towards the blues. Currently, I'm playing drums with a little ol' Blues band from Bowling Green, VA, The Paul Sigmon Band, for almost 2 years. We played a lot last year and hope to do more in 2008. Visit the site: (www.myspace.com/thepaulsigmonband)and enjoy some songs and pics.
In addition, I've been playing some gigs with my good friends Jim Gilliam (www.myspace.com/jimraygilliam) and Bob Hubbard (www.myspace.com/bobhubbard), also known as "Bobzilla". Pumpin' out some blues, swing, and jump blues music. Just a loosely-knit trio, at the moment, but we might be getting some more work.
Also, looking to round out a NEW blues project by the end of the summer. Lots of fun things are going to happen with this. Keep tuned for more info.
And, when I can, I still show up at some local jam sessions with other musicians, as well as hosting a few.....just playin' for fun. I'll be cruising a nursing home near you in search of other "old" rockers/bluesmen....so, dust off that guitar, bass, harp, or horn, and sneak out to one of my jam sessions. Let's have some fun and surprise everybody. Don't forget your meds...Band of Geezers, anyone?
hi sonny, thanks for the add and keeping the blues alive. Watch for our (Guitar Shorty) new Cd coming out mid January 2010.Well, keep on drumming. your myspace friend, hubert
