One of the largest, single day Rock n' Roll parties in the valley's history is going to take place on June 7th at The Crossroads Music Hall, 115 Clinton Ave. E., in downtown Huntsville. "MUSIC 4 MEDS" is the "Concert to Benefit The Community Free Clinic". Doors open at 1:30PM, and music begins at 2:00PM, and will continue nonstop until the wee hours. A minimum donation of $10.00 is requested, but if you feel more generous you are encouraged to act on your emotions. The line up of confirmed artist continues to grow. There will probably be a few surprises. Continuos updates are available right here.
The Community Free Clinic, located at 410 Sivley Rd. in Huntsville, is in the business of helping people, many who simply can't afford to get medical attention and life saving and sustaining medications anywhere else. The Clinic and it's volunteers do this all year long. They help people, and they never fail to do it with respect and professionalism, always leaving the patient's dignity intact. Lately the numbers of people seeking help at the clinic has been steadily growing. The economy sure isn't helping. When people lose their jobs they usually lose their medical insurance as well. When people don't have insurance, they often fail to get early treatment of many illnesses that could be easily managed, but left undiagnosed often become much more serious, even resulting in death.
When I learned the Clinic itself needed help, financial help to continue to serve the community, I talked to a few of my fellow musicians. The result was the decision to take one day and do a benefit concert to help the folks at the clinic, who are working to help others year round.
Jamie Hunter, Jeff Goltz, and David McLain volunteered their venue, Crossroads Music Hall, with it's great stage, sound system and light show, and the folks who run it. All of the artist are donating their time and talents. The Valley Planet is sponsoring, and helping to get the word out in the community. The Holiday Inn Downtown is providing rooms for our out of town artist. Our logo was created and donated by Scott Sanders-AccuImaging,LLC. The folks at Datatek-USA have provided print services. The Cochran Firm of Huntsville is sponsoring us. The City of Huntsville is allowing us to use the multi story parking complex directly across the street, so there will be ample free parking. Everyone I've spoken with has been so amazingly generous, helpful, and enthusiastically supportive.
At times like these, I imagine we all wish we were wealthy enough to write a huge check to solve the problems that arise, but for most of us, the best we can do is pitch in a little, and try to get the job done. If you can afford to show up on June 7th and donate a few bucks, we promise to play our hearts out for you and make it worth your while.
Won't you plan on coming out and being a part of this celebration? Together we can do a lot to help our community, and have a great time doing it! Hope to see you there!
Thanks so much for your help and support. - Sonny Edwards

REST IN PEACE, BROTHER
DAY ONE of Angelus Benefit: Charlie Daniels, Kerry Creasy, and Tommy Crain

We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved friend and bass player Kerry Creasy has passed away. Kerry died during the night from an apparent heart attack after performing with Tommy Crain & the Crosstown Allstars on DAY ONE of the 2008 Angelus Benefit at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida.
Our hearts are broken and words fail us. Our friend Michael Buffalo Smith had this to say, "Kerry's final show was nothing short of spiritual. He, Tommy and the band rocked the grand ballroom…during the pairing party. The band played several of their own songs…then…Charlie Daniels strapped on a Les Paul to join the band on a set that included The Legend of Wooley Swamp,The South's Gonna Do It Again,Trudy, and The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Kerry looked and sounded better than ever. He sang one of his songs as Charlie played guitar with Tommy Crain and Bob Rumer. It was awesome."
DAY THREE - CHARLIE-PALOOZA CONCERT:
Charlie Daniels brought Kerry's wife Donna Creasy onstage and sang Amazing
Grace in Kerry's honor. MBS: "Not a dry eye in the house, especially Charlie's."

Please remember to keep the McCorkle Family in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
George made his Journey Home June 29th, 2007 and was laid to rest on July 3 in Spartanburg, SC.
George McCorkle was an original member of The Marshall Tucker Band - the pride of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Back in the 70's, and continuing today, the Tucker boys revolutionized the concept of Southern music and made their hometown proud many times over. George played mostly rhythm guitar...with a picker the power of Toy Caldwell on lead, it took a special kind of talent to be able to keep from being lost in the mix...but George handled the job well. Marshall Tucker hits like "Fire On The Mountain" and "Last Of The Singing Cowboys" came from George, who left the band in the 80's for a career as a songwriter in Tennesee. But the real George McCorkle will be remembered for his kindness and mentoring of up and coming musicians. He'll be greatly missed by many, many people worldwide.
"I wish I could find the words right now to express the loss everyone is feeling. But, there just are not words that describe such a wonderful man, only music."-Bruce Wall.
The Jam For George Concert will honor George as both a human being and an original member of The Marshall Tucker Band. Those who knew George McCorkle have described him as a kind, Southern Gentleman who appreciated all types of music. We want this show to reflect the the spirit of the man as well as his music. We want this show to reflect the love and respect that Upstate South Carolina and the whole Music Industry had for George.
You don’t really wanna be anywhere else. Don’t miss it!

Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
