All the best bits of eveything good that ever happened to fantastic people on a great day.
Sonny Marvello the 1st was an infamous illusionist/showman who made a name for himself during the time of the Russian revolution...some of his most famous tricks involved conjuring a live elephant on stage (argument still rages as to whether it was real or some manner of sophisticated puppet), eating the flaming head of a pygmy and the spectacular 'who's legs am I wearing?' dance.
He gained true infamy however for what was to be his last show in Paris..... When he apparently sent a whole audience into some kind of trance state by use of a cursed melody and promptly robbed them all before escaping to Turkey......or maybe it was "in" a turkey...
Not counting on the vengeful tenacity of some of the more unsavoury characters in this audience, he was taken un-awares one evening several years later and had both of his hands chopped off. Needless to say he never performed any more high profile shows again but rumours persisted through Eastern Europe of a travelling magician, an exceptional conjurer who would, as a finale remove his own hands and put them in a glass box before disappearing in a puff of purple smoke.
The Sonny Marvello of our times (possibly the 7th) is currently incarnated as a band, trying to stay out of trouble. Influences include The Band, The Beatles, Beach Boys, Bowie and Blur...and other bands beginning with other letters as well.
The band gained a reputation by creating masked balls and secret gigs in Glasgow before promptly pulled together all their resources to escape Glasgow to New York City; where they promptly won 'Best International Act'.
In recent times the band played to loads of sexy girls and boys at a packed O2 Academy at Club Noir, before playing The Mill at Oran Mor. The summer saw the band sell-out Stereo in July and August, funding time in Cava Studios to record their debut single; a double a-side of Easy Boys and We're All Cruel.
2010 will see the band launch an acoustic album, followed by their debut single on limited edition red 7-inch vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, also available online.
Sonny Marvello are a fighting fit brigade, armed with theatrical yet heartfelt material and a mission statement to entertain the masses at all costs.
