Too Much Joy, fIREHOSE, Dead Milkmen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, other bands they never much liked but hey, whatever.
Backwards Day was born in the wilds of Springfield, Illinois sometime in 1988 when Jim Schniepp (guitar, singing) and Scott Faingold (lyrics, singing) began writing songs together as a means of distracting themselves from their stultifying day-to-day realities. Before long, the duo had attracted Tedd Smith (bass, singing) and the inscrutable Timothy M. "Grumpy" Harte (drums, no singing) resulting in a band that, at its peak, managed to unify Springfield's malcontent demographic into a fervent local fanbase, a dubious achievement indeed.
Thus emboldened, Backwards Day began to branch out, playing sporadic "out of town" shows in Iowa, Kentucky and even (gasp!) Chicago, where gigs at the fabled Lounge Ax and stalwart Metro filled the combo's principle members with hubris enough to inspire a misguided relocation sometime in 1991. Upon arrival in the so-called "Windy City", Faingold, Schniepp and Smith (Harte remained behind in Springfield, agreeing to travel upstate for shows) helmed the band's inevitable and well-earned journey to oblivion, where Backwards Day remains to this day.
A completely innacurate (and frankly actionable) account of Backwards Day's early career can be found between the covers of Faingold's tawdry, one-sided "novel", Kennel Cough. Deservedly out of print, the book is nonetheless available at hugely inflated prices from viciously greedy Booksellers throughout cyberspace.

Hi. Just letting you know I'm back in the studio recording the next two albums. Details on the Max X Blogs. I won't be able to answer many myspace messages for the next few months, so please be patient with me.
Things have been going great! With all your support & the help of some internet radio play the site is up to 10,000 Friends! Yay! Shooting to release the new stuff at the beginning of the 2009. Hope you're well. - Max X
Hearing "Toxic" again is so refreshing. And we can only imagine how glad the neighbors in my apartment complex are, to finally be welcomed to my firehouse!
Wow, I'd never even seen the videos before, though I do remember hearing all about them from Carol P after we all moved up here to the froze-tundra.
Where's Chemicals and Love?! Don't get me wrong --- I adore all the songs, but I still have Chemicals and Luh-huv playing in my head! And that song would probably get little Bo over here to myspace, she digs that song like nobody's Bo's-wax.
Backwards Day will go down in Listerine.
That's how fresh.
I want Your Body Right Now Baby aka
IWYBRNB is one of my favorites.
Plus all of the other songs.
Plus I'm special because I know them all PERSONALLY and personally. They are all great guys and I've taken my time in leaving a dumbass comment for them.
