I'm from NC, the home of Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith - the guy who recorded one of the first rockabilly instrumentals. I learned guitar from following Doc Watson around - he's a legendary bluegrass picker who also used to play rockabilly - he not only taught me to play fast, but also really taught me the history of American music. Bob Wills is still the king! I listen to a lot o western swing and a lot of hillbilly boogie. I also love rockabilly - my favorite of the classics are Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Burnette. My tastes in rock are kind of odd - the Velvet Underground is my favorite all time rock band, and I dig all the old school trash/punk bands - Television, Richard Hell Ramones, Cramps, etc. All of that combines into my tastes in newer music: Stray Cats Rev. Horton Heat, Dale Watson, Junior Brown, Hank Williams 3, BR5-49. I was in Athens, GA when the Flat Duo Jets were big, and I was a charter subscriber to "No Depression". Basically, I dig old country, old blues and old jazz - and, I'd be glad to tell anyone why it is a tragedy that Emmett Miller has been forgotten.

About me:

I sing and play guitar - a Fender Telecaster electric and a Larrivee acoustic . I'm proudly southern - my family came to NC sometime around 1730 and my 6th-great grandfather was one of the 6 French officers brought to the colonies by LaFayette to help with the Revolution. My French (an Irish) heritage shows in my personality - I'm moody, determined, politicaly cynical and obsessed with wine and food... but, with a southern twist... I'm a pit master - I cook barbecue in the style that my family has done it for about 300 years. I can quote at great length from Faulkner and Hank Williams, and in the works of Kerouac, "The only ones in life for me are the mad ones; mad to live, mad to love, mad to be saved - desirous of everything at the same time."

Who I'd like to meet:

Musicians especially - I want to start a band. I'd also like to meet people who enjoy rockabilly, western swing, etc. And, of course, girls!
