   About Son of Thom

I'm an acoustic guitar singer-songwriter (and I still hate that phrase) based in Edinburgh, Scotland. In the past, I have been better known in the local area as a bass player, and perhaps a singer, but I've been concentrating more on playing the guitar and writing songs recently (over the last 12 months, or so).

I organise a monthly acoustic night, Hollow Heart Parlour, at Henry's Cellar Bar, Edinburgh. We showcase some of the best local acoustic talent and also invite performers from further afield to play. Take a look at www.myspace.com/hollowheartparlour for more details.

Otherwise, I'm a sound engineer by night, and I can usually be found in one of Edinburgh's music venues turning dials, pressing buttons and moving sliders simultaneously, and all while doing my best not to panic! I've worked with some of Scotland's (and the UK's) finest bands.

Hey

'stole the show'? How very kind, sir! We had lots of fun playing Acoustic Edinburgh. Hope to be playing that way again some time! We have a video blog and put songs and music vids up online a fair bit, so you can still listen to us when we're not there!

Hello Damon, Have you heard about this? Apparantly some hotshot producer (I dunno, Steve Albini or Rick Rubin, or someone) rounded up some wayward postfolkies and made a record with them in a church in a wine and rum haze. It sounds alright, like? Just letting you know. ;)

Our new release "Like Alchemy EP" is now out on Fife Kills: records. Recorded live overnight in a church in Edinburgh. Full band for the first time: saw/cello/harmonium (pandemonium)/autoharp/double bass etc etc.

250 limited edition stamped and numbered copies in recycled packaging. £4 only through Paypal on the myspace page (www. myspace. com/robstjohn)

Some kind folks have said some kind things:

“a fragile and haunting thing. St John's guitar jangles discordantly from time to time, the harmonium wheezes gently in the background, and the eerie warblings of a saw occasionally rises from the ether, lending the whole thing a comforting, after-hours feeling reminiscent of James Yorkston or David Thomas Broughton”
4/5 The Skinny magazine

“harmoniums, saws and guitars creak and groan into a musical balm and is simply the best and most surprising thing I've heard in ages”
Lonesome Music

"Like Alchemy is simply one of the best EPs I’ve heard in 2008 and the title track is one of this year’s most beautiful songs. Simple as that.”
The Daily Growl

“Bill Callahan with more orchestral flair.. Like Alchemy is a mesmerizing and compelling EP from a talented newcomer”
Captain Obvious

I can't believe it! The GMB song, 'I can't believe I fell in love with you' is currently sat in 5th place in the worldwide Fame Games tournament and needs just a few more votes to pass through to the Internation Finals.

If you've a spare minute, and if you'd like to, visit www. meermusic. com/theGraemeMearnsBand and register your vote!

Hope all's good.
