Sons of Tonatiuh was conceived on 4/25/08 in a ditch by the side of a dirt road. The concept behind SOT consists of recognizing where we as a human race came from, what it means to be immortal, and how important it is to understand the history of the native world.
Here's the breakdown.... Sons of Tonatiuh is composed of Dan (ex-Leechmilk), Mike (ex-Fell A Victim) and Scott. On 8-13-2008 Mike Longoria (Withered) recorded the first four song demo. In March of '09 SOT did a 1 week tour up the east coast and then in Sept of '09 we did a 2 week tour out to the west coast and back. There are current plans to record a full length within the winter of 2010. Sons of Tonatiuh plans on touring extensively afterward so please keep an eye out for us in your town in the near future.
There is currently a limited pressing of 500 7" vinyl for all those that wish to bask within the graces of Tonatiuh...
"These Atlanta dudes have unleashed some heavy fucking doom crust on the world. They get it all right with an awesome crushing sound, unholy screeching vocals, and lyrics that are smart and poetic in their description of this fucked world. Brutal." -Ariel Awesome (Maximum Rock N Roll)
"I’m not an expert on the style of music this band plays, but I have seen a few bands that I can compare them to. For reference, I can hear the sounds of bands like Eyehategod, Sourvein, Weedeater, and 16. I’m guessing the genre that would fit them is doom. The lead track even draws hints of crust punk when things speed up for a bit. But what stands out is the downtuned, hard-hitting metal in the slow to barely mid-tempo speed. The vocal delivery is pained with shrieking screams. Guitar riffs have the sound of Black Sabbath on their best day. A bass guitar drones and plods along, keeping the mood low and the pace consistent. Drums are pounded out with sheer fury. I would not want to be reincarnated as a drum head for this band." -Donofthedead (Razorcake)
"Sherman’s last burning… Atlanta’s Sons of Tonatiuh take two songs to show all Eyehategod imitators screamo/bumcore ain’t the sole property of trust-fund, spare-a-dime crusties. Never seen this trio, but the 7” sounds like cherubic butt-trumpets coming thru the hi-fi on something like the tenth fucking straight day of rain. Two tracks, “Chain Up the Masses” and “Oracle” differ slightly, which is apparently what SoT is gunning for as the band segues into a trucker-speed somnambulist-boogie version of early Sleep. Shrieked out black outs, punch drunk, Jello-legged. Mighty blow, mighty blow. Left. Left. Sonny Barger’d be proud." -Stewart Voegtlin (The Left Hand Path)
"More crusty-punk than crusty-sludge, Atlanta's Sons of Tonatiuh (pronounced “Tahn-a-tee-ah”) still has enough of a Leechmilk pedigree (guitarist/vocalist Dan Caycedo played in both) to appeal to those that drink freely from those foul, murky waters. If you want an aural pistol whipping, try “Waterfront Gang” or “Prove Your Magic” on for size. If you're more in the mood for drowning in quicksand, “Oracle” is for you. And if you want the best of both, there's opening number “Chain Up the Masses.” Regardless of tempo, these Sons play it straightforward and vicious. For fans of Sourvein, Iron Monkey, Eyehategod, and Weedeater." -John Pegoraro (StonerRock.com)
