Me, just me.....Sooz. I took piano lessons from the age of 6 (that translates to 16 years of piano playing, but I'm no Chopin), sang a little solo in the school play at 7 and was hooked ever since. I've had classical coaching from 13 and like to take a lesson every now and then to iron out the bad habits (chin down bitch!). I write songs (mostly about love and magical lands....no joke, sorry), I sing anything from Radiohead to musical theatre to Queen and even a bit of Gershwin when I feel like it.....you name it, I'll sing it to varying degrees of success.
Influences
Now you're asking for trouble. Well, I'd like to say that I'm totally un-influenced and am incredibly unique, but the truth is just about every musician I've ever heard influences me. In Cyprus I was nick-named L.V (out of that film what's called Little Voice). I personally take most of my cues from Streisand, Freddie Mercury, Jeff Buckley, Pink Floyd, Led Zep and Tori Amos. Gosh, how pretentious.
Sounds Like
On a bad day I sound like a zip. On a good day I sound a bit like Barbra Streisand if she was a bit nervous. I've been compared to Kate Bush, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey (there's a compliment in there somewhere) and, in my finest hour, was compared to Maria Callas by a massive Callas fan. Then again, I've also been compared to the Scrat from Ice Age and Little My from The Moomins.
Barbra Streisand meets Kate Bush meets Russell Brand...the voice of some skanky old diva, the looks of a 14 year old who will eventually grow into herself. I'm 23 and despite singing and performing since I was 7 I've only been able to go for it 'professionally' since completing my degree in scriptwriting (yes it IS a real degree ACTUALLY!) in Summer 2006. I've returned to the UK having been in Ayia Napa for 3 months as Christina Aguilera impersenator (don't ask). I have a real feel for rock performing and currently front rock covers band, The Spoilers where I get to go frickin nuts and leap around and scream my lungs out. Just finished the 8 week summer run of NewsRevue at London's Canal Cafe Theatre, and am playing the lead in After The Turn, a new musical coming to London in 2009.
