A blend of melodic rhythym driven and diversified by heavy riffs and metal undertones. Our songs come in screaming and drop into a rhythmic interlude, or start as a haunting melody that builds to a dynamic hard-hitting crescendo. We try not to limit ourselves to a specifc sound, and instead focus on the intent of the song and how it will inspire the listener.
Sophia's Decline are a progressive hard-rock/metal band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They formed in May 2006 as a compilation of five artists, all with differing influences and musical backgrounds, and all from a different part of the country. Each member has been involved in the OKC music scene for several years earning radio play, "Track of the Day" at GarageBand, lot's of stage time, dedicated fans, and a lot of good advice and experience.
Vocalist Clint VanWagner combines powerful vocals with chilling shrieks and heavy screaming to create and deliver the emotion behind each song. Drummer/percussionist Misty Doughtie, from Oklahoma, draws on her metal influences as well as both hip-hop and tribal persuasions. Bassist Jeremiah Griffin, from Missouri, having studied jazz bass and theory for several years, adds a unique twist to the genre and is the heartbeat of the music. Guitarist/Sampler Cameron Volk, from North Carolina, provides the Hard-Core/Metal feel that is the cornerstone of their sound, as well as adding an Industrial layer with synths, samples, and keyboards. Guitarist Josh Smith, from Florida, grounds and compliments each song with melodic overtones, heavy riffs, and creative solo-work.
Over the last two years Sophia's Decline have found a common ground and evolved, both as people and as musicians, to develop a sound that is a surprisingly graceful blend of each individual's influences.
