Sophie Lake (vocals, instrumentals). For details of the other groups I play and sing with please see my website www.sophielake.co.uk. "Late Licence", one of the groups I play with, were recently runners up in the bands and duos category for the 2007 FolkQuest competition run by BBC Radio Gloucestershire, EntsWeb and Saul Canal Folk on the Water festival (see www.myspace.com/latelicencefolk for more info on the band). I am always interested in getting involved in new musical ventures both folk and classically based so please do get in contact through the site if you have a new musical venture/project in mind and would like to get me involved.
Influences
My influences are many fold both classical and folk from many years of musical training and most importantly listening and learning. A good grounding in Irish music and song was gained whilst living in the wilds of Connemara a few years back, but now I am more involved in and influenced by the English folk traditions and traditional song and dance music.
Sounds Like
I've been compared to a lot of people but I like to be myself with a sound and style of my own!
Born and brought up in the Somerset Countryside, music has been a large part of Sophie's life for as long as she can remember. Her main instruments (other than her voice!!) are the flute, piano and high and low whistles and she also plays the english concertina. She has also played the clarinet, viola and violin in years gone by and occasionally ventures to play the guitar and the mandolin. Sophie sings and plays in many local Gloucestershire folk bands/dance bands and also plays in a classical orchestra just over the border in Wiltshire.
Sophie has always been involved in writing orginal material and in recent years has written many original folk tunes and songs. She also has a love of harmonies (as demonstrated in some of the tracks above) and according to many others has an uncanny knack of producing harmonies that really work together (most often on the spot and with no prior warning!) to accompany both song and tunes, both instrumental or vocal.
The above tracks are taken from my recently released debut solo CD entitled very aptly "Me, Myself & I" as everything on the CD was either played or sung by just me with the exception of a couple of tracks on which fellow musician Jim Hannis played the melodeon. Hope you enjoy them. Copies of the CD can be purchased through this page by clicking on the buy it now button below or through contacting me through the website and is also available at local commercial outlets Best wishes Sophie x

Thanks for the welcome. I've arrived, and it is a strange place to be, especially when you're trying to be in several line-ups and projects at the same time, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. See you soon, Jeff x
