Exposed to music at a young age, Sophistic has carried a love for all types of music for the majority of his life. Being the son of the blues singer/songwriter/guitar player Doug MacLeod, he was influenced by genres of Blues, Jazz and Folk music at an early age.
Sophistic started off how most emcees usually do, simply rhyming and having fun with his high school group of friends, banging whatever underground hip hop they could get their hands on. After emerging triumphantly from battles in high school, Sophistic set off to Cal State Fullerton with a strong sense of confidence in his rhyming ability to pursue a degree in Communications. After visiting many open mic spots around the LA area such as the Project Blowed, he came to the realization there were other emcees out there with a tremendous amount of skill as well. This reality check humbled Sophistic and motivated him to privately build his skills until the right time. This also marks the time when he began producing and digging for records.
During his years in college, he has released a 9 track EP "Livin Today," and has recently linked up with hometown friends Awdbawl, Ero and Lost Lane to form the crew SECOND THOUGHT. He produced 10 of the 14 tracks on their 2005 full length release "IT'S ABOUT THAT TIME." Sophistic is also featured on three tracks on "SPARK THE UNDERGROUND," a 12 track EP produced by Long Beach veterans ELOKWENT AND DVS ONE. In early 2007, SOPHISTIC broke away from the SECOND THOUGHT crew to focus on his solo career. In the summer of 2007, he released his first 12'' featuring three singles from his solo album "It Is What It Is."
SOPHISTIC has performed at such venues as THE HOUSE OF BLUES (Anaheim/Hollywood), KEY CLUB (Hollywood), HOUGE BARMICHAEL'S (Newport Beach), COOLER LOUNGE (Las Vegas), HOUSE OF REP (San Diego) and many others. SOPHISTIC has had the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as THE VISIONARIES, CYPRESS HILL, SNOOP DOGG, KILLAH PRIEST and GZA of the WU-TANG CLAN, SELF SCIENTIFIC, THA ALKAHOLIKS, SABAC RED OF NON PHIXION, KEV BROWN and the legendary KRS-ONE.
The name "SOPHISTIC" serves as a personal reminder. SOPHISTICated people always change with the times. His current goal is to make a name for himself as an MC/Producer in the Westcoast underground scene. By consistently performing live and transforming non-believers into loyal fans, he believes this goal will undoubtedly be acheived in a matter of time. He as developed a signature sound combining conceptual, lyrical content with a smooth, soulful delivery and hard-hitting boom-bap production reminicent of hip-hop's golden era. Sophistic's lyrical content has been considered by many to be philisophical and thought provoking. His words have a tendency to fly right over the heads of some people. Nonetheless he feels he has acheived his goal as long as his listeners can find a way to relate to his lyrics.
