  • Bio

Sophist; From the ancient Greek word meaning "wisdom" in the sense of possessing a certain art or skill. Sophists, were teachers of philosophy and rhetoric, and in that context took on the meaning of "clever" as in "clever speaker". What was considered to be the decadence of the Sophists are Truth and Knowledge. What they sought to teach was not principles or absolute truth, but the improvement of men. "All principles, all truths are relative," they said. "Man is the measure of all things." Sophist hopes for others to use their music as a tool for improvement. With introspective lyrics and metaphorical depth, the band explores and borrows from many genres. Bringing the raw aggression of the likes of Alice in Chains and Tool, melodies reminiscent of Pink Floyd or Radiohead, Sophist covers a wide spectrum of styles from acoustic ballads to heavy metal with an eastern flare creating a truly unique sound. Sophist consists of vocalist and guitarist Egor Suhanov, lead guitarist Jake LaBute, bassist Joel MacLellan and drummer Mike Dinuzio. Sophist broke into the Windsor and London music scene in 2010, performing in many venues across Southern Ontario. In 2011, they released their first single 'Disclosure', following with the release of 'Moment to Memory' and 'Crimson City'. The band is currently recording their debut full length album "Calm Before the Storm", to be released in 2013.
