Hailing from Sheffield is the charismatic, talented but yet modest Sterling. A truly remarkable singer and songwriter, Sterling is a formidable creative source and driving force behind the group. Sterling was approached by Kazeem to join the group having seen him performed at a south London talent show. Sterling is a seasoned performer and has been singing and performing by the time he was old enough to talk and walk. From an early age he was supported and encouraged by his parents to discover his musical craft. In him, grew a passion that allowed him to perform at every opportune moment, performing at talent shows and showcase events. He entered his first talent show aged 11 and wrote his first song aged 13. Artist inspiration comes from the likes of Brian McKnight, Alicia Keys, Marvin Gaye, Kim Burrell, Musiq Soulchild, Joe, Stevie Wonder and Beyonce. Sterling says, "I’m looking forward to the future, in particular looking back at our accomplishment many years from now, it would be a massive buzz looking back at our journey and where we came from"
From the tender age of 10 the sultry and conscientious Rickell has been singing and dancing. Raised in a music loving family Rickell was always destined for a music career. His parents, who was both singers, ignited a passion for music and performing, which subsequently lead to Rickell attending the prestigious “Sylvia Young Theatre School” where he studied dance and musical theatre. Rickell also attended Urdang Academy and studied musical theatre and contemporary dance. Rickell also is a seasoned performer having performed in a variety of dance and singing shows in and around London. Rickell has a strong passion for fashion and is very much proactive in the imagery of the group. Rickell describe his idles as Jill Scott, Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Jodeci, Brandy and Mary J Blige, to name a few.Rickell says,”not knowing where our music is going to take us is quite excitable. I am looking forward to touring the UK and the different countries this project will take us.”
The feisty and ebullient Kazeem epitomizes the energy, passion and effervescence of the band; it was he’s initial drive and vigour that started the ball rolling.Kazeem studied performing arts at college and like many young people he saw music as a last resort to secure a positive existence.Kazeem is a talented dancer and singer, although for many years dancing was his main passion. A solid work ethic saw him performing at showcases, talent shows, family functions, and any other events that would allow him to nurture and perfect his craft. Kazeem expresses admiration for acts such as Usher, Omarion, Boyz 2 Men, Lauren Hill, Jackson 5 and Jasmine Sullivan. Kazeem divulge, “Success is my main attraction for the future, especially doing what I love .I want people to feel our music and as long as I am laughing and enjoying life, I’m good”.
Joe is undeniable is an animated and exhilarating performer of the highest calibre. He was spotted at a showcase event by the bands management company and his creative flair has made him a welcomed addition to the band. Joe studied performing arts at college and despite he only started singing and dancing at 15, he has grown and evolve at a phenomenal rate. His music and influence is woven from the same genetic stream as artist such as R Kelly, Ginuwine, Usher, Neyo and Chris Brown. Joe described Michael Jackson as his biggest idol “he has a spectacular stage presence, and every performance is breath taking.”
Not often does the UK pull out talent that gets full marks on the vocal and performance score sheets until now. Conceived and put together by their Management Company and founding member Kazeem, “SOS” acronym for “Sons of Soul” is an exciting new R&B Vocal group that transudes, a hypnotic, sensual and inviting persona. The lineup was finalized in Jan 2009 and possesses a notable wealth of vocal talent, song writing ability, passion, dance attributes and much more.
The quartet includes the extremely talented Sterling, Rickell, Joe and founding member Kazeem. These guys have bonded well together and the chemistry is cemented and consolidated by Kazeem’s and Rickell’s school boy friendship. Each member feed off each other's drive and ambition to achieve world wide success. They have quickly become well-learned performers and are ready to be unleashed, with their high intensity stage performance, catchy melodic songs and outstanding vocal ability.
With a sound more common across the Atlantic, the SOS sound pulls together an infectious blend of soulful R & B, New Jack Swing, Hip Hop and Pop. Each Band member is as diverse in their musical influence and style. Individually they are all lead singers in their own right and share vocal arrangement on all their material.
Sons of soul are certainly one to watch for 2009. They are destined for imminent success and are moving at an unstoppable pace as they continue to bolster their ever-increasing fanbase who are charmed by their music, effervescence, persona and charisma. They have recently performed at The Fairfield Hall, Liquid, and Hackney Empire and have had unrivalled support wherever they perform.
