Well, like all musicians we would say we have a unique sound but the best description we've had would be 'like Soulfly if Trent Reznor were part of the band'.
But there's so much stuff going on with distorted dance loops, piano, cello and samples that the sound can be pretty eclectic at times.
Many bands nowadays are writing music to express strong feelings of emotion and to put across a message; but many seem to miss the point; trying too hard to change the lives of everyone that listens to them; forgetting the most important thing: The Music.
One band that has thankfully strayed far from this trend is Soul Destruction who take cleverly developed lyrics to create their wonderfully bleak soundscapes.
Their use of sample rhythms and beats give rise to an industrial, almost dance-like feel that share the same airspace as unrefined, ripping guitar riffs, complex tribal drums and pure dropped C bass.
But that's not it all, the vocals deliver melancholy on a diverse range of personal subject matter and are, at times, distressingly demanding. All of this is wrapped in a gothic atmosphere that engulfs the whole sound, one which brings these diverging elements together as one, truly unique, sound that is further augmented with classical melodies and even a ‘cello!
The subject matter of the songs is a diverse range of personal experiences like on ‘The Sorrow' which is based on the fallout of a friend's suicide whereas ‘This Disease' tackles the effects of addiction on family life; but there's also a more subjective and politicised approach on songs like ‘Educate' which deals with the medias overriding interest in capitalism rather than in reporting (there's no profit in truth) and uses the Cambodian Genocide of the 1970's as an example.
Soul Destruction released the 'Descend the Trend' promo to rave reviews in the national press, fanzines and on internet sites, drawing comparisons to Nine Inch Nails, Fear Factory, Static-X and Marilyn Manson and followed it up with a period of extensive gigging to build their fan base.
The recording of their self produced debut album was a labour of love which was dragged kicking and screaming out of a mire of setbacks literally running the gamut of life and death to be finally released in the spring of 2009 via union black Records.
It is clear that this is a band with enormous potential and their blend of experimental metal is almost certain to reap rewards.
This is a band at the top of their game, with something to say that pretty much everyone can relate to. In short, this band deserve your support over the factory produced American dreams that are forced upon us!
‘A modern blend of trippy beats and samples with Metal riffs and a gothic atmosphere this band are another one of those great new bands that are screaming to be discovered.. This is excellent...'
‘Authentic revolutionaries... an intoxicating mix of raw guitar power, heavily distorted vocals and speaker-shredding sequenced beats... Twisted and complex...'
‘This not only makes you think about things but also happens to be very, very good to boot...'
‘Good breakdowns and cool riffs... like Soulfly if Trent Reznor was a part of the band...'
