Soul Diggaz production team based out of New Jersey and New York City. The Soul Diggaz are one of the most innovative production staffs on the rise. Having worked some of the most notable musicians within the music industry. Constantly, attempting to break the musical barrier fusing intellectual and spiritual approaches to their craft.
If there is any one production team in the music industry who articulates the passion, struggle, and drive for success, it’s the Soul Diggaz. Creating stunning works of audible poetry for over 10 years in such a fast-changing business is unheard of today, but they have done it. Although, K-Mack, Bless, and Corte Ellis have traveled very different paths, they came together to create the sounds that dig deep down in your soul.
K-Mack and Bless are two brothers who grew up in what would be a 90’s music capital, Newark, NJ, home to such acts as Queen Latifah, The Fugees, Naughty by Nature, and Redman. K-Mack and Bless were bred in the perfect place for a fresh sound. K-Mack started as a DJ in the local club scene and he was also in the group Hardwe’re, who had demo deals with Def Jam and Jive. His younger brother, Bless, was at home listening to 45’s making beats. K-Mack became interested in what his brother was doing at home, so he tried his hand at production, and in 1996 the brothers paired to create the Soul Diggaz.
As a result of their collaboration, the Soul Diggaz started gaining recongition. They started off by working with MCA recording artist Nonchalant in 1996, and then hooking up with fellow NJ native Pras of The Fugees, for a song on his solo debut Ghetto Superstar. In 1999, Bad Boy executive Kirk Burroughs met the Soul Diggaz through Floyd Howard, and signed them as in-house producers for Mary J. Blige’s imprint, MJB Entertainment. With this new deal, Soul Diggaz produced a song titled “Chasing Lies,” for Mary J. Blige, as well as “Believe,” a collaboration between MJB and the legendary Chaka Khan.
After a successful stint with MJB Entertainment, the brothers hooked up with a talented a songwriter from Portsmouth, VA named Corte Ellis in 2001. The chemistry was so strong between the brothers and Corte became the official third member of the Soul Diggaz. They immediately went to work and Corte started placing numerous records for other artists. Everything was looking great for the trio, that’s until that terrible day in history: 9/11. Just like the rest of the country, the Soul Diggaz were now just lost souls. Devastated and depressed from 9/11 the Soul Diggaz musical inspiration had declined. Then in 2002, they were introduced to Beyoncé Knowles and she fell in love with the Soul Diggaz sound. After working with Beyoncé in Miami and New York, the result was three songs and a L’Oreal commercial. The east cost trio was officially back on their feet.
The buzz from the Soul Diggaz’ work sparked up a bidding war between Sean “Diddy” Combs, Corte’s cousin, and Missy Elliot. After meeting with Missy at a photo shoot, two days later the guys found themselves with two offers on the table: one from Diddy and another from Missy. The Soul Diggaz decided to sign a production deal with Missy Elliot, and a management deal with Chris Lighty’s Violator Management. The Soul Diggaz found themselves doing tracks for films like Barbershop 2, Honey, Fighting Temptations, and even the theme song for the UPN show “Eve.” This led up to the pinnacle of the group’s career, scoring a Gap commercial for Missy Elliot and the Queen of Pop, Madonna. Not to mention producing the remix to Ashlee Simpson's 1 smash "L.O.V.E." ft. Missy Elliot.
Today, the Soul Diggaz are working with Timbaland on their new artist Izza Kizzas debut. Corte Ellis is putting the finishing touches on his solo album under the Soul Diggaz imprint. The guys are also working on projects for Shea India, Lil Miss Na Na, and the world famous Missy Elliot. 2007 has been a huge year for the Soul Diggaz. Producer Danjahandz called up fellow Virginia native, Corte of the Soul Diggaz, to help him pen three songs for Britney Spears’ comeback album. Corte also wrote four songs for American Idol finalists’, Katharine McPhee’s self-titled debut. Corte Ellis is now one of the most sought after writers in the entire industry.
Currently, on the radio for the Soul Diggaz is B5’s first single “Hydrolic,” featuring Bow Wow and Diddy, and Cheri Dennis first single “Portrait.” Even though Diddy did not sign the Soul Diggaz back in ’99, he always finds a way to hook up with them. He has been on three different Soul Diggaz productions in the past two years. The Soul Diggaz are now considered one of the most versatile and breathtaking production teams in the world. Their services are certainly in demand. Be on the lookout for the Soul Diggaz from here on out, because they are not going anywhere.
