Mission:
Soulfari Kenya Inc provides creative hands-on service opportunities designed to connect, educate, and empower Americans and Kenyans.
Each summer, SFK offers a short-term trip to Kenya focused on one of or a combination of these themes: The Arts, Occupational/Physical Therapy, Education, Leadership Development, and Corporate. These trips act as a catalyst for exponential positive growth for Africa.
Vision:
The travelers themselves are the heart of SFK’s intended impact. Once a traveler considers the trip, education about the Kenyan culture and an awareness of poverty is cultivated. On the trip, the traveler gives the gift of service and is transformed. This hopefully leads to a philanthropic lifestyle and a deeper consideration of their responsibility as a global citizen.
SFK truly believes its existence is essentially charitable because it ultimately serves as a catalyst for eliminating prejudice and discrimination in the States and beyond. Travelers are transformed by their personal service and depth of interaction with Black Africans. There is a radical shift in their frame of reference upon their return to the States as they freshly consider the plight and position of Africans and African-Americans in their own country. Often travelers have redirected their career, become philanthropists, parents of adopted children, activists, advocates, and wiser consumers and voters. This service, dialogue, and process leads to further relief of the poor, advancement of education, and the reduction of prejudice and discrimination in local communities.
Secondary yet vital beneficiaries are the following: orphaned children in Kenya, Kenyans in Kenya, and Kenyans in Kansas City and throughout the States. Travelers work in orphanages around the Nairobi area, teaching, making art, feeding, clothing, providing therapy, building, and sometimes just being present through play, simple touch, or a listening ear. SFK is realistic that a short-term trip may temporarily serve these children, but then the travelers leave and must question their long-term impact. Over the years SFK has developed friendships and business partnerships with local Kenyans. By returning each year, SFK brings some economic possibility, job training, and leadership development for these Kenyan connections over time. Lastly, SFK’s relationships with Kenyans in Kansas City are nurtured, including Kenyan membership on SFK’s board of directors and communication with local organizations such as OKKC, Organization of Kenyans in Kansas City.

Hey Josie, Thanks for the add(I think that's cool myspace language isn't it?). Can you take 2 large envelopes to Kenya for me? One is for the sisters and the other for Joe and Nancy...updated pics of the girls etc. Let me know if I can give it to Sarah or if I should mail it to you. Great myspace page, by the way.
Josie, Sarah, Julius! Thanks for the add. I'll never forget my trip to Kenya. Thanks for making it so much fun! Hope things are going well for everyone! Lots a love! -Resa
