You will also hear Classic 70s and 80s soul, disco, boogie and club dance tracks along side the rarer releases of the past 30 years. Solar Radio across the UK & Europe on Sky Digital CH0129 Paul Phillips --- www.soulfulgrooves.com --- www.soulmusiccollector.com --------------- My love of soul music began in 1978 with the discovery of radio shows such as Greg Edwards and Mike Allen and later during the early 80s Phil Allen all on Capital Radio along with Robbie Vincent on Radio London. Then there was the original soul pirate Radio Invicta run by the late Tony Johns which broadcast on Sunday afternoons. During the early 80s more and more soul pirate radio stations such as JFM, Horizon, Solar and LWR started to appear on London’s airwaves playing soul funk and jazz, In 1982 I decided to start my own pirate radio station and although only small it attracted a cult following around some parts of south east London. By 1986 even more pirate stations had taken to the airwaves of London including Starpoint Fm. One day in October 1986 on hearing a request for new presenters for Starpoint FM I made contact with station manager Carl Lewis and within a few weeks I was presenting regular shows plus assisting with engineering using the experience I had gained through running my own station. Between 1986 and 1991 when Starpoint FM finally ceased broadcasting I presented many shows playing the best of the new releases of the day alongside 70s and 80s soul classics. After life as a pirate Starpoint Fm went on to broadcast under various RSL’s during the 90’s at Windsor and at the Southport soul weekenders and I continued to be involved in all of these until joining Solar in October 1998. Over the years I have travelled around the UK and USA trying to hunt down some of those obscure 70s and 80s soul records to play along side the classics and the new releases of the day. www.soulfulgrooves.com ..
