Soul Fusion is funk that covers a lot of ground. The band puts its own spin on a variety of artists, bringing an intense bass in your chest style to James Brown and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a soulful croon to Stevie Wonder, and a bluesy shred to Jimi Hendrix. Soul Fusion began in 2001 as three guys who wanted to jam. Original members Tom Cooper III, Erik 'Bjorn' Nelson and Luke Rathe were already seasoned professionals slogging out the late 90s music scene in alt-rock and metal bands, but wanted to be part of a different sound. The idea of a funk cover band grew when Erik and Tom came together over their love of Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. "We had gone to see (blues musician) W.C. Clark at Buddy Guy's club in Chicago," says Tom, "and he started playing Sir Duke. We looked at each other and said 'we should do this'." 500 gigs and a few drummers later the band celebrated their tenth anniversary with the return of Rathe to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus. The addition of guitarist Daniel James enlivened the group's sound, his fretwork creating a visceral experience for fans of the blues. The band looks to get back in the studio in 2013 to record the long-awaited follow up to 2006's Its Cruel. For Booking Contact: Tom E.
