Souljah1 sound has been on the sound system circuit since 1992. Magic(or Magixx) , the owner/selector/mc started the sound with a few of his close bredrins from Devil’s Hole(area in Bermuda). The founding members include Mr. Bouncer, Jeffrey Crucial, Prento, Wilton Irie, Charly Blak, and a few anonymous background contributors. Magic and the rest of the crew used to play a sound called Rude Boy International back in the late 80’s where they became young stars in the Bermuda sound business and had a Grand following to any events they played at. After Magic went to College in London ’92-‘93, the Rude Boy International Sound soon dissolved, but this was just the beginning , Magic gained the greatest opportunity in de sound business, which was to spar with Saxon Studio crew for the Year he was in London. He met Saxon when they brought them to Bermuda for some shows with RudeBoy sound, where he built a kinship with djs; Senior Sandy, Jr. San, Deadly, Colonel, and Musclehead(One of the Greatest Selectors born to this world). He then carried the link forward to the UK and linked with the rest of the Saxon crew. This was a pivoting point for Saxon, as they were in the midst of the re-building stage, when Muslcehead was bringing the sound up to World Cup status.(Saxon went on to play in the first UK world cup clash a year or so after Magic returned to Bermuda).
One of the greatest memories was hanging at 22 Overcliff rd, SE London(Saxon headquarters, Dennis Rowe’s house), and the nights of being downstairs in the studio till sunrise, chilling with Roger Robin, a big singer from Saxon.
Magic got to see how a real “big sound” functioned, from stringing up speaker boxes, playing with the notorious Custom made Pre-amp and effects, to witnessing the legendary Musclehead fling down a whole nite of pure dubplates never heard before.
All the knowledge brought about the continuation of our music legacy…..bringing forth Souljah1 Action Syndicate(Magic named the sound when in London, giving the meaning of being a musical soldier that stands alone in Jah’s Army) close to the end of Magic’s stay in London.
Our first dubs were voiced in England, djs named Horseman, and Pablo Snake. Magic and Jeffrey Crucial also made their first dub-cutting trip to Jamaica before the sound first buss and voiced Jr. Ried, Baby Wayne, Woody Noble, Jonny Osbourne, and a few others, giving us a nice startup arsenal.
Souljah1 claims their big buss in the business was sparked from meeting Babyface of King Addies, head on in a crowd induced dub fe dub clash at a dance in Bermuda in ‘94(Clayhouse Inn), scheduled to be a juggle . Souljah1 held their own and sametime made an impression on Babyface, as being a bad sound from Bermuda. Face took the cassette and buss it all around NY, making the sound name circulate around the world. (Babyface and Magic are still close bredrins to date)
Later on in the successful years of many victories, trophies and awards, Souljah1 brought on another selector from the Hood named Anty Ranks, whom Magic crowned with the name LENKY BOY, upon joining the sound, who gained his experience by stepping on to a sound that is already big and heavy, and learning how to move it. Magic went away to Huntsville in ’99 to continue college(receiving a degree in IT and Microsoft certifications), and the sound slowed down a bit, as life priorities came in to play. Inadvertently, Lenky moved on in the early 2000’s to start his own sound, named Lenky Boy Movements. Other Seleectors on the team(present and passed) are: Barrygon, DBlock, FireKee, and Naji
From bussing the scene, back in the early 90’s, Souljah1 has kept its presence in the dancehall circuit as a sound that bridges the gap between small Bermuda and the big world of sound ting. They have played longside and/or clashed with all of the top sounds in the business, new and old, and have curbed their style to accommodate all the changes that have been made in dancehall throughout the years.
Souljah1 Muzik is Magic's Music Production label,aspiring to produce music and work with the enhancement of artists that he chooses to work with.....
Along with Saxon, their major influence is also from sounds system greats like King Addies, Killimanjaro, Sir Coxsone, Unity HiFi, King jammys, and Black Scorpio.
