“Soul Kata is Herbie Hancock meets Stevie Wonder meets Sly and the Family Stone."
~Kelly Harland
Soul Kata is a powerhouse soul / pop band that delivers their original music in the spirit of Stevie Wonder, James Brown and Alicia Keys. Stemming from Mo-Town and bridging from the Stax era, Soul Kata blends their catchy and feel-good music with a nice dose of humor and a light-hearted look at relationships and life. Sure there’s plenty of love songs and songs about relationships in the world, but the band writes music that is as compelling and heartfelt as it is groovy and addicting to dance to.
"Katrina is one of the best and most hard working rising singers in Seattle!"
~Greta Matassa
Front woman and composer, Katrina (Wible) Kope leads the group with her amazing sense of rhythm and blues – simply put, this woman has so much soul you’ll swear she’s a 300 pound diva! Katrina met pianist/composer Josh Rawlings and bassist/arranger Nate Omdal while they all attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. They transformed a working jazz quartet into an exciting original group, and for the past five years the members of Soul Kata have been playing the Northwest’s top venues ranging from Jazz Alley to Bumbershoot. Each player has their own successful career but when the powerful band meets Katrina Wible’s soulful voice the result is irresistible!
Recently, Soul Kata has added more punch by establishing a serious horn section for a number of their new and classic songs. The addition of the horns has been well received and often results in entire audiences having to get up and dance. Soul Kata is currently beginning promotion for their 2nd full-length album to be released in June 2009.
Soul Kata has a contagious and exuberant sound that is uniquely their own. Through the years they’ve grown in new and interesting ways, but one thing has always remained the same – they play so we may all exercise our inner spirits…in other words…act a fool on the dance floor!
Make sure your venue is on their list of upcoming dates. For more information please visit www.jandjmusic.net/soulkata.html
"Soul Kata's soulful groove creeps into your ear, melting down your spine, infecting every muscle with a beat that leaves you no choice but to boogie. Their clever, comedic and sincere lyrics pull you deeper in with every listen. They're truly, highly addictive."

BIG HIGH performs live @ the High Dive in fremont this Friday! Check it out! Here's a review of the band from the infamous Dennis Cook of Jambase.com: A touch too punchy to make the morning offerings, I stumbled in and got WOKE THE FUCK UP by Big High, a local hard rock ensemble and friends to Flowmotion that struck a first impression akin to my first mind-blowing Drunk Horse gig. Like Oakland's steel-plated punk-boogie juggernaut, Big High aren't screwing around and it wasn't a whole tune before I was shaking like a madman close to the stage. Killer tunes, a crazy tight band and a lead singer (Mesa on "vocal flyfishing") possessed of a fathomless bottom and high reachin' top end plus a leaping, fiercely engaging stage presence, and well Big High sorta rocked my widdle world. It's serious heavy muscle that puts a lil' anger and sex in your bloodstream, culminating in a frighteningly good cover of The Who's "Baba O'Riley" delivered in Dr. John style feather masks for no good reason except to be delightfully weird. If you're feeling Clutch, Parlor Mob or just dig quality hard rock you're missing out if you don't get to know Big High. At the end of their set I bellowed, quite uncontrollably, "We're awake now, motherfuckers!" Meant it, too. -- Dennis Cook--www.jambase.com www.myspace.com/bighighmusic BIG HIGH is also on facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BIG-HIGH/134022157365?ref=nf High Dive www.highdiveseattle.com 513 N 36th St # G Seattle, WA 98103-8693 (206) 632-0212 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncSvpp8vCfM
