Over two years ago, I read the best selling book, "The Purpose Driven Life," and began to seek the Lord for His purpose for my life...A couple of weeks later, I was having breakfast with a friend who is a 42 year old stockbroker, gorgeous, highly educated and well-traveled. She said to me, "I am so sick of this dating scene. I'm not meeting anyone that I'm interested in and I desperately want to be a wife and a mother." Then she leaned in and looked me in the eyes and said, "If I'm not married in a year, I'm going to freeze my eggs and pick someone and have a baby with him." I looked at her incredulously. She was dead serious.
The very next day in the hair salon, another dear friend sat next to me under the hair dryer and said; "I'm going to tell you something that I've never told anyone. I am embarrassed to tell people that I'm single at 42 because I'm tired of them looking at me like something is wrong with me." My heart went out to my friends and it was in that instant that I could sense God saying, "This is it. Tell this story." I asked my friend if she would be willing to talk about her experience on camera. She said absolutely. Within one week, we were filming.
...At that point, I had absolutely no idea that 42.3% of all black women had never been married.
