Driven from the ashes of the sludge band Forsaken, Michael Avery (Guitar), Anthony Staton (Vokills), Mark Schindler (Drums), and Robb Hewlett (Bass) went on to form the band Soulpreacher. Their early sound focused primarily on hateful psychedelic doom metal. Mark Schindler parted ways early on, and Brian Watson was added to the lineup taking over on drums.
Soulpreacher then signed with Frank Kozik's label Man's Ruin, and soon released their debut album "Sonic Witchcraft" in 1999. The response was powerful in the doom and heavy metal scene and the band went on to release the follow-up "When the Black Sunn Rises...the Holy Men Burn" in 2000 on the Colorado label Game Two/Berserker Records.
Following Michael Avery's departure to law school in 2004, the band decided to add the double guitar talents of Chris Hill (Gods in Waiting, Sorrow Bequest (now Widow)) and Trent Giardino (Shadowlore). With the addition of the two new guitarists, the band's sound grew darker, and more melancholic.
In late 2007, the band recorded their third studio album "All the Drugs Are Failing," showcasing their growth and songwriting skills. With influences ranging from Pink Floyd to Slayer to My Dying Bride and Anathema, Soulpreacher continues to transcend the Doom and Heavy metal genres.
"The clean verses shimmer with understated melody and a desperately catchy vocal flow that I haven’t been able to get out of my head since I first heard it." - Hellridemusic.com
“SOULPREACHER are intense and a strong musical unit. If they continue their path, which they’ve taken with this CD, they will be a band you should count on for the future. Order this awesome release... because you shouldn’t miss it."
- CosmicLava.de
"...SOULPREACHER practices a doom death [style] with stoner/sludge influences with the most beautiful effect. An interesting discovery."
- Crypticmadness.com
“…SOULPREACHER mixes its doom origins with the limits of sludge and doom... Well produced and put together, and very heavy. Soulpreacher should satisfy all fans of that style." - LordsofWinter.com
"They have a lot of good hook lines, but their music is still dark and melancholic with a lot of anger about the world we live in." - Cosmiclava.de
Hi, Guys hope all is well with my favorite NC doom band. I want to personally invite you guys to come out to Volume 11 next Thursday 26th to see The Reticent. I think some of you will rather enjoy it. The Reticent somewhere between Opeth and Nick Cave and I think you gentlemen would have an appreciation for that. I hope to see you there.

Cheers from Australia, guys. I just want to tell you all a quick story. In 2006 i went down to the music shop with the purpose of buying 3 albums by bands i'd never heard, something we should all do more often, and i picked up a copy of Sonic Witchcraft. To this day it remains one of my favourite albums ever. And it annoys me that no one i meet seems to know of you, because your sound would be right at home down here and we'd love to have you, if only you had the exposure. You guys are awesome, keep rockin.
