Soul Shredder was the brain child of Stu Gibson (Lead Guitars). Initially formed in 2003 with fellow Sheffielder Daniel Robinson, the band jammed with a revolving door of musicians, during which an early version of Prepare for Annihilation was written. After finding it hard to find decent members, the group fizzled out in 2005.
Stu continued to write and record, and it wasn’t long until he met Manchester born guitarist Tom Collinson, and drummer Rob Backhouse. Tom impressed Stu with his bluesy lead playing and solid rhythm, and both he and Rob were asked to join.
The band was now in search of a bass player, and after a couple of unsuccessful try outs, a friend of Toms named Ed Scrimshaw gave it a shot. Sheffield born Ed not only impressed the band with his "loud n' proud" bass playing, but also his guitar playing, expertise in equipment, and Sound Engineering.
A Singer was found in Kyle Vine, and the band filmed a music video for Prepare for Annihilation. At this point the band decided they were unhappy with the direction of music, and parted ways with Kyle. It was around this time that Rob left the band, and a new drummer was found after a single audition. The spot was filled by Gaz Oldale from Chesterfield, who had an original style of drumming that worked well with the band’s music.
Finally, after several months of try outs, a singer was found. Thumri "Cookie" Paavana had a very melodic style of singing reminiscent of 80 rock bands such as Warlock, Queensryche and Savatage. The band thought she was a breath of fresh air compared to the endless amount of screamers and went back in to writing mode.
After several months of rehearsing, writing, tweaking and recording, the band are ready to unleash their music live, and are looking to make 2009 a busy one.
