The Soul Snatchers are coming to getcha!
Real Soul Music never dies. That’s what the insatiable musicians of the Dutch band The Soul Snatchers prove every time they treat a swinging crowd to their timeless, down to earth funk and soul tunes, that find their roots in the sexy Sixties and Seventies of the 20th century. Taking pure Soul Music right across the bridge into the new century, The Soul Snatchers combine unknown classics and original compositions into a show that not only appeals to connoisseurs, but just as well to bigger, more mainstream-oriented audiences. The Soul Snatchers don’t claim to have invented Soul Music. Neither do they pretend to re-invent it. They… just HAVE it! And they LOVE to share it with Rhythm & Blues-lovers in every corner of the globe. Founded rock solid on the well oiled rhythm section of clean drums and thumping bass, the dangerously growling Hammond organ and the reverbing guitar sounds find their way to your soul blindly. Add to that the threeheaded copper section The Dynamite Horns, the charismatic performances of singer Curtis T. and special guest vocalist Jimi Bell Martin… and all ingredients for a real Soul Party are present.
In the Fall of 2006 The Soul Snatchers’ first 7” vinyl record on the Social Beats label, ‘Sniffin’ & Snatchin’, was released. It immediately caught the attention of deejays like Keb Darge, Henry Storch, Andy Smith, Kenny Dope, Soul Rabbi and Paul Weller. And of quite a lot of record buyers: it didn’t take long before the record had to be re-pressed! In 2006, The Soul Snatchers also appeared on compilation albums such as ‘Various Soul Shakers Vol. 3’ (Recordkicks), ‘Stay on the Groove Vol. 2’ (Freestyle Records) and ‘New Testament of Funk Vol. 5’ (Unique Records).
In September, 2007 the second 7” record, with Dutch Soul singer Jimi Bell Martin, is released. In the early 70’s, with funky songs like ‘So Fine’ and ‘Moviestar’, Jimi stormed the charts and even held the 1 position in Latin America for weeks. During the past decades, he toured with people like Eric Burdon, Percy Sledge and Lou Rawls. The CD ‘Dutch Rare Groove’ brought Jimi back into the limelight in 2005 with his own vintage Soul tracks. Last year, he toured all the major Dutch venues and brought the soulful Dutch hits from the Seventies back to life successfully, together with musicians like Oscar Harris, Peter Smidt and Louis Debeij.
In January, 2008 The Soul Snatchers’ first full album with mainly original compositions, named ‘Sniffin’ and Snatchin’ ‘, is released worldwide on the Social Beats record label. Japan will even be treated to a special Limited Edition of the album. The 12 short’n’spicy soul tracks with the Sixties Sound all over them result in an album with good old LP-length. So… no wonder ‘Sniffin’ and Snatchin’' will be available on nice crispy black vinyl!
In August, 2009 The Soul Snatchers release their 3rd 7". Musical contentment is very clear on their new single. The Motown beat of the A-side “Good and Plenty” will move even the biggest sourpuss. With this new single the group brings a more stylish sixties sound and groove. The music is playful yet serious, captivating and inspiring. The rhythm section is tight but not forced, the horns play heavy and singer Cutis T. proves to be one of the best new Dutch soul singers! The B-side is definitely not a ‘B’ choice! “Soul to Soul” sees legendary Dutch Soul singer Jimi Bellmartin taking the lead. The Soul Snatchers are a nine piece group with an abundance of ideas. They show us time and time again how to play good authentic funk.
Soul Revue Live
Inspired by the original Soul Revues - like the ones that legendary labels Stax, Atlantic and Motown brought in the 1960‘s - The Soul Snatchers present a 90 minute long whirlwind show with instrumentals played by the Hammond organ wizard and the tight horn section and sizzling songs performed by several vocalists.
The Soul Snatchers are: Ron Smith – Guitar / Ton VanderKolk – Bass / Phil Martin – Drums / Frank Montis – Organ / Curtis T. –Vocals / Tjeerd Brouwer - Trombone / Ruud Kleiss - Trompet / Thomas Streutgers – Sax / Jimi Bell Martin - Vocals
Yeah,,, I got a good word. It is the best record to go in my box so far this year. I am gonna hammer both sides. I played "I can't stand it" twice last Friday, second time my old mate and dj partner Guy Hennigan (a man not easily moved by records) came to the decks shouting "What the fuck is this ?". Number one in my chart for the next few months without a doubt.Keb Darge
Super crispy, super funky, uptempo soul 45 from this Dutch band. Great production especially on drums and percussion. They say themselves that this is nothing new and that they're not trying to reinvent soul music, they are just loving the heritage and playing it damn well. Sometimes good music is just that and getting all precious about taking things forward is not needed. Just listen to the samples... Pete Isaac
Founded rock solid on the well oiled rhythm section of heavy Ludwig drums and thumping Fender bass, Dutch band The Soul Snatchers are alive and kicking, playing music that, inspiration-wise, clearly goes way back to the 60s and 70s. Add to that a dangerously growling Hammond organ, reverbing Gretsch guitar, two or three-headed horn section and female singer Jojo and you have a killer live soul // Picadilly Records
