BOWIE! The Velvet Underground, The Doves, Iggy and The Stooges, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Shins, The Who, The Cars, The Easybeats, and a bit of Joy Division
"THE IRWINS": Mixing New-Wave cool and anthemic punk with old school 60s trash charm, The Irwins are a new breed. A glorious, romantic nerd cult. A confused, fearless army of mod boys who want to save the earth. Like a leather messiah they’ll rise out of the sparkly dust and run free and clear through the ubiquity of Rock n’ Roll. And because Ross cannot tell apart imagination and real life, they will take the mania that transcends melodic nature and run it deep into the mud of the land, and what will emerge will be bright, joyful and dangerous. An unrestrained, Pete Townsend state of mind and being, that will spread euphoria through all who touch it. Blessed with animal grace, they’ll set your love on fire. The Irwins. This Melbourne six piece have laid low in the shadows. Their brief appearances in the Australian and UK indie scenes were just explosive, melodious peeks at what is to come. Get ready for The Irwin Revolution.
"THE ROSS IRWIN SOUL SPECIAL": Rock with Soul. Soul with grit. Riffs with dirt, and wierd, obscure covers that confuse and entertain. The Soul Special is a 10 piece Rock/Soul outfit from Melbourne, Australia. Made up of a mix of Melbourne's finest trash soul and 60s psychodelia players, this band is a late night party tour de force. So forget Boggle with your cousins, come drink whisky n' Shake hips.
"LOS DELINCUENTE ALL STARS": Led by Ross Irwin, this 11 piece all star line up is a mix of players from Australia's most exciting bands. With members from The Cat Empire, The Bamboos, San Lazaro and Vada, the All Stars are fast becoming known as one of the countries most exciting and dynamic Afro Cuban/Funk bands. With an original collection of uber-cool funk/soul/psycholdelia tunes, mixed with dynamic Afro-Cuban instrumentals, this band has fused a heavy, hard hitting sound that is like no other.

"Also hugely enjoyable, highly original AND psychically useful is the
music of Australian duo The Scrapes, whose fiery epic guitar and
abandoned Mithraic fiddle pieces evoke images of lost Keltic lands
inundated by the oceans, lost Iberian & Armorican sea peoples and
lost times from beyond the beyond." Julian Cope
Hello, the Custom Kings are playing their only Melbourne show this Saturday at the John Curtin Hotel, with special guests the Hello Mornings and Matheson.
Hope to see you there.

Ross, I am here to thank you for being more organised than Yuri. Your gigs are all listed which means I now know I will be celebrating my birthday at the Nightcat (again) and had to snoop (again) to find out what's on to plan future weekends. It's going to be the 20th of June. Oh and I will do my best to stay sober and subsequently less SCARY but can't promise much :-)
Hello again, a couple of boys from the Custom Kings have a side project called Joe Neptune. Joe's debut album, "No Time To Grow Up", is in stores now. Bonus tracks are available in iTunes. Thanks
Welcome to the planet of the Scrapes. Everything that you know has crumbled and your monuments have returned to the Earth. The Metropolis is no more. The pavement is cracked with tree roots pulsing like veins through hills that never end. This is the future you never predicted even when its icy grip tugged at your wrist. There is a real beauty to it though...the victory of nature over corruption...the sound of trees rustling against rusted industry...the cry of birds above the din of ceaseless traffic...a post-industrial caterwaul from the darkest corners of your memory. Our place is dark, but there are cracks of light through the canopy and a different kind of life thrives here. The air is warm but the wind is cold and the horizon never ends. A landscape both familiar and forgotten...ancient yet regenerative. There are no masters here so close your eyes and forget everything you remember.
