&c:
mirrored silver sea is the kind-of
solo project of exceptionally talented
melbournite tim condon
(kind of, because it also
features contributions from
his buddy aaron unkovich
and caz gannell of melbourne's laura).
continual ascension is recorded debut,
and ranges from shoegazing ambience
and glistening piano to
distortion-drenched beats and
noisy-as-hell guitar.

a nine track follow-up to shoeb ahmad's
last release sonar love songs
featuring bedroom sketches recorded
during a year long stay in wollongong in 2006.
with guitars processed through layers of static
& vocal takes from the dead air of night,
sea songs, dead ends and sleeping pills
encapsulates the space afforded by the coast
& the distance between home and loved ones.
features contributions by m.rösner,
william ryan fritch (sole & the skyrider band),
machinefabriek, plinth & felicity mangan (function).

SCISSOR LOCK:
thawing voices

01. Followers (10:00)
02. Sky Sulphur (5:02)
03. Vespers (11:43)
format:
CD-R
edition:
75
packaging:
hand-made envelopes,
hand-numbered, screenprinted inserts
&c:
scissor lock is self-confessed
"overenthusiastic teenager" marcus whale.
in the past, marcus has occasionally released
music made made primarily with instruments
like guitar and piano.
for thawing voices, however,
he has ditched instruments altogether
to make a three-part suite of
purely vocal music. it's kind of like medulla,
except marcus is a dude,
and mike patton isn't on it.

available by subscription (with added goodies) or individually (in very limited quantities).
there will be exactly 100 subscriptions available, all individually hand-numbered with hand-silkscreened covers. subscription copies will be pressed on coloured vinyl (and, honestly, who doesn't like coloured vinyl?), while all the rest will be on good ol' black. subscribers will also receive a 2xCDR compilation featuring all the tracks from the singles, hand-packaged in the classic s&f wax-sealed envelopes. there will be other surprises chucked in along the way for those who take out subscriptions, but they're so exciting that to tell you about all of them right now would cause your brain to explode.
the first record is scheduled to arrive late 2008, with the next eleven to follow over a six-month (or so) period.

Who I'd like to meet:
older releases still
hanging around....
THE NETHER DAWN / 1/3
OCTAVE BAND
live at
sound&fury

format:
CD-R
edition:
100
packaging:
hand-made envelopes,
typewritten inner sleeves,
unique colour photos
&c:
this was the biggest yet.
birchville cat
motel, 6majik9,
the nether
dawn, 1/3 octave band,
the first ever solo performance from james kirk
(of sandoz lab technicians).
it was as if the entire town of
wellington, nz
had decamped to sound&fury.
the day started with a rare duo
performance by
antony milton
& jon dale
as the nether dawn.
1/3 octave
band followed that up
with their hardware store clang
& looped feedback.
sure was a lot of fun. hope they come back soon.
ALPS
alps of new south
wales

format:
LP
edition:
300
packaging:
hand-printed sleeves,
featuring drawings
by chris hearn
&c:
armed with a church organ,
a casio keyboard, a dictaphone
loaded with
pre-recorded beats & an uncanny
knack
for catchy-as-hell pop hooks,
alps is the solo guise of one
christopher frances hearn,
who used to be in bands like
bene gesserit
& organ doner kebab.
following a CD-R EP & a lathe-
cut 8",
alps of new south wales is his
debut full-length,
a wholly engaging collection of
glorious
pop songs, coloured by just
enough weirdness
to keep the sweetness in check.
[for a limited time, all
alps of new south wales LPs
will include a free CD copy of
the album.
just, you know,
cos we feel like it.]
BLARKE BAYER
meniere's
disease

format:
CD-R
edition:
100
packaging:
hand-made envelopes,
screenprinted / typewritten inner sleeves
&c:
ben andrews is perhaps better
known
for providing my disco
with their signature angular
guitar scree.
but he also performs solo under
the name
blarke bayer,
running his guitar
through a battery of effects to
create
multilayered drones &
tones.
this live set starts out rather
harsh,
but slowly morphs towards an almost blissful finale.
SHOEB AHMAD
vinyl
sketches

format:
3" CD-R
edition:
100
packaging:
hand-made envelopes,
hand-numbered, screenprinted inserts.
&c:
shoeb ahmad
throws piano notes
against a wall of digital
effects, assembling
the resultant shards into mini
sound-sculptures.
the six beautiful, fragmentary
pieces that make up
vinyl sketches make us
very glad to know shoeb.
ANONYMEYE
phase two

format:
3" CD-R
edition:
100
packaging:
hand-made envelopes,
hand-numbered photographic inserts.
&c:
andrew tuttle, aka anonymeye,
blends improvised acoustic
guitar passages
with flickering beds of
electronic noise.
our favourite way to describe phase two
is as hush arbors meets fennesz,
and we stand by
it.
