Sound Art seeks to create a replicable model for contemporary music education that serves schools, after-school programs and community centers in underserved urban neighborhoods.
At the core of the Sound Art method is a belief in the innovation and creativity of youth. By teaching contemporary music styles such as Blues, Jazz, Rock, R&B and Hip Hop Sound Art provides an outlet for creativity in a language that is specific to today’s youth.
Dear Sound Art Angel,
If you would spend $.99 on a song would you be willing to give $.99 to help our kids create their own songs?
Ruben Garcia, 14, is one of our students in Pico Union, one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Ruben plays guitar. In fact he even sleeps with his guitar! He began lessons with us one year ago as a total beginner. Today he’s playing, performing, learning and looking at a future in music. He wants to become a professional musician and he has the natural ability to take it all the way.
Ruben told me, “I never thought I’d have the chance to really learn guitar. I didn’t think we deserved to have a program like Sound Art here in this neighborhood.”
Can you imagine feeling passion for music and at the same time believing that you don’t deserve to learn about music?
Please help us. Ruben and thousands of young aspiring musicians all across the inner cities of Los Angeles need your help. If you are willing to give $.99 for Ruben’s Song, please visit the Sound Art Website
