sound:frame 2009 steht erstmals unter zwei Themenschwerpunkten, die das gesamte Festival-Programm (Ausstellung, Performances, Conference und Workshops) bestimmen werden.
Neben einem historischen Rückblick auf die Entwicklung der Audio-Vision in Experimentalfilm, Video- und Computerkunst der letzten einhundert Jahre wird das Thema Remix besprochen:

Evolution remixed!
Schon immer war die Verbindung von Musik und Bild/visuellem Reiz ein besonderes Bedürfnis des Menschen. Konkret beschäftigt sich sound:frame 2009 mit der Evolution dieser Ausdrucksform und deren künstlerischen Ausformungen seit den 20er Jahren - den Anfängen des Experimentellen Films.
Neben Walter Ruttmann und Hans Richter war vor allem Oskar Fischinger ein Pionier der filmischen Verbindung von Licht- und Tonspur. Sein abstrakter „Absoluter Film“ gilt als Vorreiter diverser audio-visueller künstlerischer Ausformungen, wie auch dem VJing. Tendenzen wie die (Liquid)Lightshows der 1960er Jahre, das Expanded Cinema, der formale Film, Multi-Media Performances und vieles mehr haben den Weg für die junge und brandaktuelle Kunst des VJings/ Live Cinemas geebnet.
Im Zuge der sound:frame Ausstellung, wie auch der sound:frame Filmtage und der sound:frame Conference werden diverse audiovisuelle Tendenzen näher beleuchtet.
Den zweiten Themenschwerpunkt bildet Remix. Als typische Arbeitsweise und Ausdrucksform der elektronischen Musik wird auch der Remix Gedanke in unterschiedlichen visuellen und audiovisuellen Kunstströmungen untersucht.
Die Visualisierung elektronischer Musik wäre nicht an dem Punkt, an dem sie sich befindet, ohne die Entwicklungen und künstlerischen Tendenzen der vergangenen Jahrhunderte. sound:frame 2009 will diese Entwicklungen ins Gedächtnis rufen und lädt ein zu Evolution Remixed!


Festival and Places

Im Mittelpunkt steht auch 2009 die sound:frame Ausstellung, die von 27. März bis 26. April auf noch größerer Fläche (1200m2) in den Ausstellungsräumen im Erdgeschoß des Wiener Künstlerhauses zu sehen sein wird.

Ein bekanntes Wiener Kino wird 2009 zum Ort für diverse sound:frame Film- und Performance-Formate.

Die sound:frame Events ziehen außerdem in eine neue Live Festival Location um, ins Wiener brut im Künstlerhaus, wo an einem Wochenende von Donnerstag bis Sonntag mit gewohnt hochkarätigen (inter)nationalen audio-visuellen Live Acts gestaunt und gefeiert werden kann!

An den anderen Festival-Wochenenden wird sound:frame zusätzlich zum Festival-Tagesprogramm in Kooperation mit ausgewählten Wiener Clubs und VeranstalterInnen für unvergessliche audiovisuelle Nächte sorgen!

Auch der sound:frame Diskurs kommt 2009 nicht zur kurz! Neben zahlreichen Workshops findet ebenfalls im Künstlerhaus eine sound:frame Conference mit diversen Vorträgen und Diskussionsrunden zu den Themenschwerpunkten 2009 statt.

EVOLUTION REMIXED!

For the first time in its history the 2009 sound:frame will focus on two major concepts, which will structure and define the entire festival-program (exhibition, performances conferences, and workshops).
In addition to the historic retrospection of the audio-visual development in different aesthetic realms (experimental pictures/ movies, video- and computer arts) from the last 100 years, the 2009 sound:frame festival will also focus on the art of audio and visual remixing - EVOLUTION REMIXED!

The fusion of music and visual impulse has been a human compulsion for as long as we can remember. sound:frame 2009 would like to examine the evolution of this form of expression from its earliest aesthetic products of the 1920s - the decade of the first experimental movies.
Along with Walter Ruttmann and Hans Richter, Oskar Fischinger must be recognized as one of the first film pioneers who worked to combine movie and sound tracks. His abstract “Absolut Film” is considered the precursor to audio-visual experimentations, such as Vjing. Forms such as the 60s (liquid) light shows, the expanded cinema, the formal movie, multi-media performances, and many others have made the new, hot, and hip art of Vjing/live cinema possible.

Throughout the course of the exhibition, the sound:frame movie days, and the sound:frame conference, a close examination of the different audio-visual trends will be made.

The second major theme of the 2009 sound:frame festival will focus on REMIX. As a main concept and form of present electronic music, the art of remixing has expanded its usage in both visual and audio-visual arts.
The visualization of electronic music would not have come so far without its predecessors. Sound:frame 2009 would like to remember the history of such developments and their developers and would also like to invite everyone to participate in its Evolution Remixed!


Festival and Places

The 2009 festival’s center of focus will be dominated by the sound:frame exhibition, which will be open to the public from March 27th until April 26th. This year’s exhibition will take place in the basement of Vienna’s Künstlerhaus with its 1200 square meter (13000 square feet) space.

A famous Viennese cinema will be 2009’s location for films and performances.

The sound:frame events of 2009 will relocate to a different venue from the previous years. The Künstlerhaus brut will serve as this new space where, for an entire weekend (starting Thursday), the public will be welcomed to enjoy a wide range of national and international audio-visuals acts.

On the other festival weekends, sound:frame, in its cooperation with a selection of Vienna’s best clubs, will provide some unforgettable audio-visual nights!

Discourse will also play an important role for sound:frame 2009. In addition to the numerous workshops, we are proud to present a sound:frame conference composed of discussions focusing on the main subjects of the festival.
