Did you see the movie JUNO ?
Scotty Crane recorded 5 of the songs on the Soundtrack for JUNO - at Soundhouse!
That Soundtrack is the fastest selling Soundtrack since Titanic!
Congrats to Kimya Dawson & Jason Reitman . . .
for all their success with the movie and the soundtrack.
Scotty and Soundhouse had a great time working with you both.
And as they say in Hollywood - See you on the Red Carpet!
ALSO Congrats to The Saturday Knights . . . The Seattle Times just called
their new album (produced by Scotty Crane @ Soundhouse) ;
" the best Seattle album of 2008."
Scotty pulled in the big ones on the forthcoming THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS album -
guests include:
Kim Thayil of SOUNDGARDEN, Chris Ballew of THE PRESIDENTS of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, Mark Walk of SKINNY PUPPY and RUBY, JACK ENDINO ("G-Fog") of SKIN YARD, Reed of REED, and Bryan Northrop of RABBIT.
As Kevin Wood of MALFUNKSHUN put it so well, this new KNIGHTS album "Pretty much Kicks ASS !."
Speaking of ENDINO . . . Man is he cranking out the HITS here!
Established by Scotty Crane in 1992 and designed by award winning acoustician Chips Davis, Soundhouse is the first studio to be built from the ground up in Seattle. Soundhouse is home to a vintage 40 input Trident 80B, a Studer A827 - 24 Track Analog Deck, a ProTools 32 Track Digital recording system - and the finest in new and vintage outboard gear.
Managed by legendary producer Jack Endino, Soundhouse is not a cold, overcoming recording complex, and it is not the basement studio in your neighbors garage. Soundhouse provides the level of comfort, acoustics and technical sophistication essential for the creative artist of today. Our live room features high ceilings, clear sight lines, hardwood floors, antique rugs, and an impressive microphone collection. The studio is located ten minutes away from Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle, and within blocks of many restaurants and coffee houses. Oh yeah, and it Rocks. Hard.

Equipment news: The studio now has:
TWO DISTRESSOR's EL8X compressor / limiters - consecutive serial numbers - both
w/ Brit Mod.
TWO vintage INOVONICS 201 compressor / limiters - incredible for snares and kicks.
HAMMOND M3 - it the really grindy / rock and roll - 6 volt version . . .
made famous by Booker T's "Green Onions" and Boston's "Long Time."
TWO Beyerdynamic M160 Ribbon Mic's in the original chrome - matched serial number - stereo pair. These are the room mics on Led Zep's "When The Levee Breaks" + Hendrix's only studio Gtr Cab mic, + the Traffic "Low Spark" vocal mic, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side" sax mic, and the overheads and hat mic's of choice for The Who's Keith Moon. Beat that history!
RCA Ribbon BK-5B ("Superunknown" GTR cab mic, and Wolfman Jack's DJ mic ! )
AKG D30 - The Who and The Beatles Kick Mic, AKG D19C - The Beatles Hat and Overhead
Mic (when they didn't use a Coles 4038 which we also have), EV RE15 - The Stones "Brown Sugar" snare and hat mic, EV 666 - endorsed by Satan and Phil Spector's Wall of Sound - and used as The Stones "Brown Sugar" kick mic.
An ALTEC 1589b mic pre w/ the 1588a and 1588c transformers - the best for low fi 60's era snares!
A Stereo DBX Black Face 128 Compressor / Limiter.
A Stereo 1960's GRUNDIG mic, a ASTATIC D104 "shit" mic, and a 1960's TELEFUNKEN D9A mic.
and an additional 8 PROTOOLS outputs - making the rig 32 in and out @
24 bit.
On to some other news. . .
I had a Gospel session in awhile back, and
was going for a 1940's / 1950 vocal sound. I used the RCA 77 DX
Ribbon - into the Altec 1567A Tube Mic Pre - into the LA-2A Tube
Compressor and into the Summit Tube EQ - then into Protools.
Holy Sh*t! It was AWESOME sounding. I'm now formally engaged to the
RCA Ribbon Mic and the Altec Tube Mic Pre.
On a Hard Rock session - I used a Unidyne III USA Shure 57 into the Altec tube pre - on Endino's Fender Twin Reverb Amp (the only amp used on BLEACH), and then again on his JMP 70's Marshall amp . . .. and once again . . Holy Sh*t! You have to
hear this thing. The Altec blows me away.
Next up . . . I tried the Altec on the the Neumann Tube 47
and on the RCA DX 77 as drum room and hallway drum mics!
Squashed both with the Blue Face 1776's and . . . Move over Andy Johns . . .
Houses of the Holy SH*T! - I broke the Levee. And I won. Seriously.
It of course helped that the drummer (Byron Vannoy) was amazing
and had a vintage 70's Superphonic Snare. Thing killed me. I love
great players. Great players - sound good on crap instruments . . . but
give them the right tools . .. and you see GOD!
Better yet: I'll have my lawyer get in touch with your lawyer, they can get some people together to do lunch. YOU have the helicopter pilot fax me from the limousine with those blue forms... In triplicate. At that point, we will just shreds those documents because we don't really need them, we just have to go through the motions...
Um, now that I am the official janitor, I MUST add you to my "TOP" friends... WOW... Dust bunnies from HELL behind that infamous couch! Just ask Giacandino (Sp?) KLU
Yes indeed, after house heat down for 2 days and a week of pneumonia, I am going to enjoy one more NY Summer and then drift westward. Maybe south of Tucson, work for the gov't, play guitar, chase lizards. Looking forward to visiting your hacienda. Sounds like a dream.
hey thank you scotty for building such a killer studio that is comfortable to work in. when i am working at soundhouse sometimes I look around and I am surprised that i am not in my living room.. -Jon Ervie
