Sound Ideas is a 32 Track Protools studio based in Newcastle Australia. The studio is owned & run by multi-instrumentalist & sound engineer Robbie Long. The studio has been in operation since 2002, and during this time has built a strong reputation and loyal clientele by providing local talent with a professional & reliable service. The studio boasts high quality equipment, a friendly & efficient service, and a 'musical' approach to recording which is sympathetic to a wide variety of musical styles - from hard rock to country, from acoustic roots to world, from jazz to classical.

Services include:
-General recording services on-site - from solo artists up to live bands
-Off-site ‘mobile’ recording – live performances, theatre, bands etc.
-Recording workshops – tutoring – demonstrations
-In-house session musicians – guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, percussion, mandolin, dobro etc. A complete musical backing track can be created for singer-songwriters or soloists.
-Assistance with musical arrangements.
-Assistance with production/mixing/mastering

Guitarist Robbie Long is a multi-instrumentalist who has covered miles of styles in his weird & wonderful career. He has been a ‘working man’s musician’ since leaving school, walking the boards with countless acts on stages and in studios over the past twenty years in Australia, New Zealand and Europe and Ireland. Although Rob has jazz/rock foundations, he has gathered tools from a spectrum of musical genres through his musical journeys, adding spice and depth to his playing.

As well as playing solo, Rob tours regularly with his bluegrass/newgrass band ‘The Lawnmowers’, and with singer-songwriter Kate Fagan. He has also worked with festival acts such as Totally Gourdgeous, Gilly Darby, Waiting for Guinness and Glenys Rae Virus. Locally in Newcastle he occasionally works with Dave Andrews (Ultra Swing Lounge), Anthony Snape, Maureen O’Brien, and Limerick.

Rob has performed at many of Australia’s major festivals, including Woodford, The National Folk Festival, Port Fairy, Illawarra Folk Fest, and Tamworth. His band The Lawnmowers was featured on The Daily Planet on Radio National 2007. A respected Australian guitarist, he has also performed onstage with a host of legendary Aussie guitar pickers, including Rod MCormack, Phil Emmanuel, Micheal Fix, Bruce Mathiske and Lloyd Spiegel.

Hey Rob,

It was our pleasure to come to the show and support your talent. After nearly 20 years of playing I still can't believe how just one guitar can be such a powerful instrument of expression... in the right hands that is! And you blew us away. I reckon would've quietened a few Sydney-siders too.

Also loved your slide work.

And as for a pick, yeah (I say shaking). I'll impress all of my four licks onto the gathering, should be quite underwhelming in the company present. Seriously though, that would be a great thing to do. Wear fire retardant clothes though and hope that there is no naked flame around when the two banjo's strike up... volatile!

Rob,

The audio montage of your production work is simply outstanding. You never fail to blow my socks off, and it's quite cold at the moment without socks!

You're a legend, and I'm gonna try my hardest to get to that Basement show in July.

Fantastic to see you up and running on Myspace Robbie. Can't recommend your studio too highly to anyone looking for a quality recording at a sane price!! The 4 new tracks I recorded with the band in January came up astoundingly well. My producer said it was one of the EASIEST files he'd ever received with minimal editing required. HOWZAT for a recommendation!!!
thanks a heap
