SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. is a ten-year-old independent label and music production company that is responsible for being one of the leaders and innovators in the Gospel House Music industry today. Soundmen set the precedent of excellence for others in the industry that have followed. Shuji Hirose is the founder and driving force behind the label, bringing out the best that the label has to offer – taking on the roles of engineer, recording executive, talent agent, coordinator and producer. To date, Soundmen is escalating at a massive rate, broadening its horizons to include Deep House, R&B, Neo Soul and other eclectic sounds risen from the masterminds of Soundmen's camp of producers, writers and vocalists. Also, as you read on, you will note the many different ventures that have put Soundmen in various successful genres. In all Soundmen does, it strives for the connection to the listener's heart and soul, drawing from the music visionaries of the past and some of this decades most talented and gifted musicians. The label's goals are to act as a foreground where talented producers and musicians can congregate and build upon each other's dreams and aspirations to create the finest in quality music. Before heading up his current label, SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD., Shuji was the former CEO and head of A&R of Free Bass Records, New York City, established in 1994 – which was a subsidiary of TOSHIBA/EMI. Shuji has worked with countless heavy-hitters in the Disc Jockey field, including legendary Larry Levan and countless others for the past 18 years – representing a new breed of Disc Jockey. Shuji also had the honor of being the resident DJ at some of the most illustrious clubs world-wide – one of which included 10,000 club heads at the Budoukan party in Japan. In 1992, Shuji discovered and developed the then 9-year-old singing superstar, Hikaru Utada. When she became 13 years old, a deal was secured by Shuji with TOSHIBA/EMI RECORDS, Japan. Her first project, Cubic U produced by Shuji, featured Jive records recording artist Imagine on the album entitled Precious, which sold over a million copies in Japan. Encouraged by the success of Precious, at 15, Hikaru came out with a solo album entitled First Love which sold over 8 million copies – which Shuji Hirose was also accredited. Among many of Shuji's ventures, 1999 included the formation of a partnership with the Japanese high tech music kiosk-interactive venture company, V-SYNC CO. LTD., which handles the coordination and licensing of American music from SONY MUSIC, BMG (among a host of many others) to overseas licensees, enabling other countries to experience each others musical styles. Shuji is also involved with consulting and licensing for DANCEMANIA BASS/TOSHIBA EMI, which released one of the most successful music compilations in Japan. Shuji is currently working with the talented group known as Refugee Camp/Booga Basement Productions. They are currently working on the development of an R&B artist from Japan known as Sayuki, who is signed with SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT Japan. Another great influence behind the exposure and success of SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. has been numerous world-wide musical tours featuring a wide array of multi-talented artist scheduled and put together by Hirose. SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. was located one block away from ground zero. After experiencing first hand the tragedy and devastation of September 11th, Shuji is taking SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. to yet another level, by helping to rebuild the economy through tourism. Working along side E ENTERTAINMENT, INC., a Japanese based travel company ENTERTAINMENT WORLD and TOKYO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC.) by providing venues that would encourage more of Japan's citizens to travel abroad for concerts that would feature some of Japan's most famous recording artists. There really is no limit to the many hats that Shuji wears with his company – he has taken SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. through just about every creative realm possible…. who knows what else is in store… SOUNDMEN ON WAX, LTD. has even been working with the New York Mets since 2003!!! Shuji's production activities continue on with Divas like SuSu Bobien and Tonni Smith and Grammy Award winner Kenny Bobien. He also provided a steady hand to many of the most high-profile singers such as Mary J. Blidge, Ja-Rule, Carolyn Harding, Dawn Tallman and a host of other top-notch Divas. He has been blessed to work with the highest caliber of artists. Shuji's moves in the industry have earned him critical respect with all that he does. What's next? Just wait and see. Get ready for a Mind-Blowing, Blessed year.
