my life is really quite splendid.
ciao.
i never cared much for G.O.B....
in other news: i'm maxine. i'm 19, and a junior at bennington college, concentrating in music.
Everyone who is anyone will have heard of Maxine Nation, the hugely popular singer/songwriter whose poignant, raucous songs have been topping the charts for the past few years. Songs like "Sinisister" and "Make No Mistake" (the latter now heard as a heartfelt anthem for abused children) are just the kind of evocatively raw yet surprisingly complex song that today's youth has been yearning for. During an interview with Miss Bleau about her recent fame, she admits, "I never thought I'd get this far. I mean, I'm just a piano and voice. I'm just...me."
Sitting in her studio in Bennington, VT in a silver corset and black lace garter belt, Maxine revealed some insight into her powerful pieces. "I have these thoughts that just have to come out," she tells me. "If I didn't write songs, quite a few people would be dead by now. Like when I was writing My Bleeding Heart," she says, stopping to chuckle, "I was going through a really rough time with my boyfriend Chuck. I just wanted him to stop saying 'Derp Derp' after everything I said, you know?" (here Ms. Nation got visibly very upset and had to leave the room)
When asked about musical influences, Maxine cited Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls, Nick Cave and Grover from the children's show Sesame Street. "I like to pull from a number of sources," she explains. "Otherwise, I'd just sound like another Amanda Palmer, or another Nick Cave, or another Grover. And no one wants or needs that."
But what about what she does on her days off? Grinning and showing those dimples that have become so famous, Maxine says only, "Well, let's just say it involves a TV, a DVD player, and a Robin Williams live show."
