Sounds of Reason began in 2002 as the title the Kyle Rattner named his accumulating solo works. After Kyle's arrival to Madison in 2003 (moving from Rockford, IL), he established his connection with Bryan Lawver when he joined the talented drummer's band, Gibbous.
Quickly becoming a strong local draw in the Madison area, Gibbous soon found themselves receiving regular local airplay. At one time, Gibbous was the featured band of the week on 94.1 WJJO, and playing a plethora of venues throughout the mid-west region. Gibbous supported respectable acts such as: Damageplan, Pigmy Love Circus, and Livid (to name a few). The group's growth increased rapidly through shared accomplishments; however, it became increasingly clear that the music Kyle and Bryan were writing did not fit the "goth/classic rock" mold that Gibbous had carved. They left the group in early 2006.
Kyle felt that his solo works had finally found its home with Bryan's powerful and unique drumming. They both knew that the chemistry they shared was a sign to start their dream project, which inherited the name, Sounds of Reason. The pair began writing vigorously in the sping of 2006, being unable to ignore this musical connection that they shared. The duo crafted a number of original works and went through a handful of musicians in search of a shared vision. In early 2007, a gifted vocalist named Phil Jochimsen answered a posted add. He became the voice of Sounds of Reason after sessions filled with chemistry and raw emotion.
Sounds of Reason focuses on writing music that honestly reflects its members and is very excited to display that music with a palette of colors, moods, and styles in engaging performances not soon forgotten by those who witness.
Sounds of Reason recorded instruments on their first EP in the inspiring warmth of Smart Studios. Big thanks to them and especially Beau for kicking ass and chewing gum. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.
