Yea, verily, Gold Sounds have achieved that of which the alchemists could only dream: the production of gold out of something which isn’t gold. Whilst the bearded quacks of the sixteenth century persevered gloomily with base metals under candle-light, our ragbag troupe of youngish bucks found success with a heretofore overlooked material – pure sound. The five members gasped and their eyes lit up…, “Hey, guys – we’ve done it! See how it glows!”
The end-product, lifted with tongs from a large, fat-spittering crucible, is the charming debut EP, ‘Home Schooled’. It is to be released, courtesy of CRC Music, in December 2009 and it consists of four songs.
But first let’s meet this indie-pop-folk-rock outfit – they’re certainly a colourful crew!
‘Saint’ Matt Williams His Telecaster’s electric, bolts of purplish, positive melody crackle and fizz from it into the eyes of the audience [not strictly true]. Impressive height and beard. John Barrett Drums. Yes, he’s laid-back, yes, he’s easy-going, but don’t cross him – unless you want a face-full of consummately executed, metronome-tight drumming. Likes a curry. James ‘Jimmy Jazz’ Johnston Synth + keyboards. Needs watching, lest his caffeine/nicotine induced distemper rip a portal to the dark side of tasteful psychedelia. Single ;- ) William Reid Top scientists still can’t fully explain the process of Sound into Gold Transmogrification (SGT)., but that’s mainly because this man holds the secret close to his chest. He plays the bass and sings unnervingly sublime harmonies. Always looks good, always smells clean. George Napthine Guitar man/frontman, Voice of Orpheus. He has a big heart and a bookish brain. He likes to share them both with captive audience.
Together they rock, they roll, they soothe, they heal; they tend to “jam it to the bone”. A calmnessof spirit descends on the maelstrom of swirling, nano vibes at the heart of their hip-but-not-too-hip crowds, sound doth become gold.
I bought a packet of sausages from Sainsburys today. On the front of the packet was a picture of Jamie Oliver. On the back it said " Prick with a fork ! " I thought " Well you can't argue with that eh ? "
Where can I get a proper copy of these tracks guys? I mean these Myspace versions are a good representation of what these recording might sound like, but gosh, they must sound freaking AMAZING without all that swishing about Myspace compression all over them :)
