Soundshok formed on December 15th 2001. They all grew up in Arbroath, attending Arbroath Academy where it all started. Originally it was Marc on Vocals and Andy on Bass but this did not work out as Andy was not really that good, plus Marc was too shy to start throwing his voice all over the walls. It all came about when Marc and Hitch (the guitarist) heard Andy in his bedroom shouting at the top of his voice along to Soulfly, Downstroy. Immediately they were shocked and from there on the band started coming together. Marc then picked up Bass and started plugging away. They now needed a drummer. Hitch and Marc done music in School and this is where they would meet Stuart Lamont. Having a little bit of experience on a kit they then asked if he would join and he did.
"We used to get broom sticks or any objects that looked like instruments and mosh out in front of my bedroom wall, moshing along to Slayer wishing we were that band playing to a mass crowd."
Since the dawn of Soundshok, they have built up quite a reputation for producing straight to the point face blistering metal and they only hope to continue this. They have played up and down the country turning heads and labels. After recently leaving Rising Records they felt it was time to stop being so concerned about being signed and more focused on doing it for themselves and for the people. It was time to rise up, step up and prove once and for all that Soundshok are here to make YOU BLEED from the inside out.
Soundshok have just recently finished recording their latest EP 'THE PESTILENCE' at Prism Studio's, Stoke, UK with present and future producer Shaun Lowe giving them exactly what they felt was what this EP needed, much GIRTH, BALLS and a LIVE FEEL! He certainly proved that he may or possibly is the best Producer in the UK at this moment in time.
"We have seen many bands come and go, dropping like flies, but with us it's not a case of giving up or going through phases like most sheep, it's in our blood, heart, soul and minds to succeed as a powerful metal band and that's what we will do. There is no turning back, the dedication and drive is too deep"
In September 2009 Soundshok will be heading out on tour for a solid 3 months covering the UK/IRELAND & EUROPE playing in front of hungry metal heads and even gracing the stage with some big influences that have carved Soundshok's sound, so keep an eye out on the gig listing front!
"We are bringing some hard ass metal to you so all we ask is for you to respond. If your not moving, your only a target."
Soundshok - The Bringers Of Bloodshed
Debut studio album from Scottish four piece. While riffs are minimal and the pace is noticeably slow, Soundshok prove that their take on metal is adventurous and very much their own. Nods to thrash and early nu metal can certainly be recognised, but Andy Thain's inimitable vocal style booms with both energy and pathos. Meanwhile, the riffs, courtesy of Hitch Holmes, don't tire. All in all , this is a well presented album from a young band with massive potential. There are elements that are inevitably derivative, as anyone would expect from lovers of metal who make metal music, but when you're left with nine tracks of immersive greatness you'd be a cu*t to complain. 8/10
"The pace and intensity is never questioned, right up to the last beat of ‘As It Burn’ it is fast paced adrenaline pumping metal with a clear influence from Sepultura"7/10
"Isolation Is Power" and "As It Burns" they have material which will have the mosh pits of the UK and beyond spiraling into bloody chaos and reckless abandon" - "The Bringers Of Bloodshed shows that determination, desire and self-motivation are qualities that Soundshok have in abundance and for anyone who likes their metal to be hard and in your face this release deserves your attention" 7/10
Scottish thrash metallers will fuck you up!
For those thrash fans that like to be deafened, I strongly suggest Soundshok, the band’s name itself gives you a brief idea of what you’re in for. Accompanied by a powerful growl, fast drumming and thrashy and scuzzy guitar riffs, the Arbroath foursome’s 9-track album will satisfy any crossover fan. The sound quality is very rough and raw and some of the songs start to sound pretty similar, but nevertheless each song is a relentless and intense attack. With the band supporting the likes of Gama Bomb and Warbringer, these Scots are making quite an impression. Soundshok are here to make you bleed...3/5
ROCK CITY REVIEW - 7/10
The title says it all really; This isn't easy listening! They are close in sound to early Sepultura but are Scottish rather than Brazilian. The opening title track “The Bringers Of Bloodshed” brings distorted guitars and pounding double bass drums overlaid with gruff vocals. “Salvation Of The Wolves” doesn't change much, nor does “Genocide?”
These guys pretty much say it all on the tin, if you like death metal you will find a lot on offer here. However, if you don't, then you are best advised to stay away!
Metal from the small Scottish town of Arbroath as Soundshok unleash their debut on an unsuspecting world. If you hadn’t already guessed from the title, The Bringers of Bloodshed, Soundshok are heavy - very fucking heavy - and emulate Slayer, Sepultura, Lamb of God and their hardcore thrash brethren. It’s a brutal sustained assault, a cacophony of guttural vocals and shredded guitars. You can’t fault them for their collective singular vision but it needs more balance, more variation on a theme than just an all out attack, as the aforementioned masters of the genre so ably demonstrate.
It's not too bad up here for gigs, YNot bar is a great venue, not too big but big enough to get a decent crowd in - we've always had a great turnout etc when we've played there. I'm pretty sure we're supporting u'z for that gig!?!
