Szabo’s cafe cool.
CHANCES are you have never heard of American singer Christiane Szabo but you may have heard one of her songs while sipping a latte. Szabo has never been to Australia but credits Sydney music company Foghorn Records for giving her a break.
Foghorn heard her music over the Internet and selected her song, Come Away With Me, for one of its Sounds Like Cafe compilations, which are played in more than 1200 cafes around Australia.

It..s been great to be involved with soundslikecafe and it has certainly raised our profile "down under". We have sold many CDs to Aus and NZ since being involved with you guys, so thats great. Also, the hits on our web site from your part of the world has risen
dramatically as well - so many thanks.
Jen Garcia - Manager Anthony Garcia
"I found myself at Maple 3 and as I entered up the path way I could hear some great music playing. I got to the counter and asked the guy standing there "Who is this playing"? He said "It is Sounds Like Cafe, do you know it? It is the best thing to ever happen to me and my business". He then proceeded to tell me about the compilation etc and handed me a brochure. I told him who I was and that Anth was on it, much to his astonishment. He was RAVING about your compilation CD. Then as I was waiting for the food and coffees, on came the track, and it was great to hear it in the context of a cafe........I think it works really well! "
Abby Edwards (Manager: Emily Davis)
"The Soundlikecafe Compilation Vol 14/15 has helped Emily Davis as a solo acoustic artist make valuable connections with Cafes across Australia whilst touring. On our National tour with the full band this year - Emily is playing at 8 cafes who are on the Soundslikecafe listing. Playing at these cafes helps make the touring process financially viable and dynamic - by playing in different spaces and exposing Emily's music to people who may not have access through standard live music venues. You can do a cafe gig in the morning or lunchtime and still going to your night gig whilst on tour. Soundslikecafe has helped as to explore a completely different avenue when it comes to presenting live and acoustic music on tour. We are sure that the connection with these cafes is going to continue over many years - helping them grow the creative and music based side of their businesses and adding another string to our bow."
Howard Bevan - Melbourne
I was recently the manager of an artist by the name of Adam Toms who has featured on one of your releases. Intrigued, I checked out your Myspace and home site and noticed that you are based out of Sydney. Even though I am no longer managing Adam, I have heard what his inclusion on your release has done for him .

Greetings from Melbourne! Just dropping in to say hello...! It was great to be part of Sounds Like Cafe, and I hope to be able to do it again soon! Here's a shameless plug for my new album, by the way:
Marshall Cullen has put me in touch with you re a performance at Crows Nest Food and Music Fest on Sunday April 29.
I'm looking for 6 acts to do 20 minutes each, mostly acoustic, no actual drum kit and minimal electrics. Lively original and covers will work, self indulgent won't.
I can cover small dollars for some costs per act and you can of course sell your CD's.
Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.
Regards

There are some new songs on my page, a sample of my album coming out in 2007. Please drop by for a listen if you feel like it. All the best for a happy Christmas and New Year,
I recently sent out an email to my various 'friends' on my space to the effect that not enough name Aussie acts were using up and coming Aussie acts as supports. I love the fact that the Angels, Jimmi Barnes and Tommy Emmanuel responded telling me I was wrong in their cases. I apologise to them for inferring anything other in their case. It shows you though the wonderful spirit of support within the Australia music community for up and coming musicians, that these 'stars' would even bother to respond, a wonderful thing and I stand corrected. My faith restored. It also says heaps for myspace as a communication network it must be one of the best.

Man I am so digging your music. However I don't understand why Australian artists are not using more 'lesser known' Aussie artist to support them on their tours. There's no better way for an act to become known than to support a fellow Aussie. I know you may not have had that luxury as you where developing but why deny it to fellow acts? Get with it. Australia is the best mixing cauldren of Independant acts in the world today. Support your own it's the only way. I know you want to. JB
Doug Sandrini, Patrick Carr, Nick Everitt, Klia Zuka and Liesl Karlsson all palyed at the Crows Nest fair last weekend October 15. Everyone was blown away by the talent. Crows Nest residents being the world travellers they are said loud and clear that they had no idea how much original talent of such a high quality existed in Sydney. So I say Sydney is the music Capital of Australia and the gateway to the future of roots music.
Luke Koteras on the Willoughby street Plaza stage totally killed 'em and left no one in any doubt as to who will soon be known as Australia best contemporary guitarist. The Mekanix with yours truly didn't do a bad job either! Keeping it live! JB
JOHN BROWNRIGG's MEKANIX doing the new CD 'Crossroads' live!
That right. John Brownrigg will be playing, for the first time in over 30 years, his own original music from his latest CD 'CROSSROADS'. With the Mekanix ... Andy Davis, Peter Toohey, Luke Koteras and Tabatha Brownrigg ... this will be the first outing of John songs live on stage. It'll be worth a look and a listen as this 'old master' ... don't tell him I said that ... trips the light fantastic with his favourite musicians. On stage at 9.30pm this has got to be worth a squize. C U there. JC
