Thanks for enriching my life in your particular way!
I've been writing songs for a long time, maybe 25 years or so, but only recently decided to pursue it more seriously by recording a couple of CD's and some demos in the last few years. My two cd's: Sounds Like Dave/The Unforgiving Minute and 9D1/Invisible Girl were hugely succesful with members of my family and some close friends. Beyond that.....not so much (They are available, however, on ITunes and CDBaby if you're interested).
Still, I am undeterred - "We walk by faith and not by sight!" - and am spending even more time trying to hone my songwriting skills and writing new material . To help me along, I have enlisted the songplugging services of Chris Keaton out of Nashville, TN who has been great to work with, as well as a fantastic demo producer down there by the name of Gary Carter. Much of what I'm writing these days is in the country or CCM genre's and some samples of my songs can be heard on this page. BTW, I can't credit for the great vocals on the demos but thanks goes out to session singers Mike Lusk, Shelley Rann and Darryl O'donnell, and Danielle Ramirez and Danielle Pfuntner. You may even hear me singing on a tune once in awhile.
I draw from a wide variety of things in my writing which is helped along by my somewhat unusual past. Among my experiences include working as as a wildlife biologist studying bird behavior and deer ticks, a Tern Warden at a National Park, a lawyer at two of the largest law firms in the world, the VP of a small sales business, written a screenplay and half a novel (need to finish that), play guitar frtom time to time for a great CCM singer named Tamara Marcella (check out her MySpace page), am a father of two great kids and a husband of a beautiful wife, like Power Vinyasa Yoga and absolutely love Mixed Martial Arts (aka Ultimate Fighting, aka mid-life crisis). As I often tell people, I have a short attention span and a very understanding wife!
I am also a comitted Christian whose faith forms and shapes who I am and, whether or not expressed explicity in my lyrics, permeates all that I write. I have no aspirations to be a performer, but my great joy would be to hear my songs being sung by great performers.
So, I'm writing everyday and enjoying the journey - if it lands me somewhere nice (like Nashville, its all gravy!
UPDATE: I recently was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2008 NSAI/CMT Songwriting Contest for my song "Keepin Busy"
Enjoy the songs!
Thanks, Dave...we don't need mySpace to be friends. Yeah, I'm still playing, and writing, and traveling around quite a bit. Stay in touch, and thanks again.
Ok, "Where's Jimmy" is just too funny. It broke my heart when I found out he was an Alabama boy and had gone to Auburn (I lived in Opelika when I found out). I had always envisioned him soaking up the sun in Key West but nope, he's a country boy :)
Thanks for the contact, Dave. I checked out your page and didn't find a button to add you as a friend. Hope we can get that done. We're still in TN visiting family and taking care of business. I've been blessed to write three more songs since we've been here.
Hi Dave, Great to hear from you and I am loving your music as well. Yeah that Mike Lusk is a rare breed of vocal for sure. He is a star in my book:-) Give me a shout and let's write something together sometime soon. Brent
