Influences	Sounds Unplugged is in its second year and lends itself to be one of the most ingenious ideas for a long time in getting both musician and an audience together. The musician: 20 minutes to showcase your talent to an audience who care about what you have in your musical armament. To the audience: you get to be heard as you vote for who you believe to be the stars of the night. You have to be in during the first artist to vote so don’t be too late!!!

Sounds Unplugged - The Moon and Sixpence - Glossop

Sounds Unplugged, started on Sunday 10th June 2007 at The Moon and Sixpence in Glossop.

The feed back we got from musicians was they didn’t really like turning up to a gig having two songs to play then go home. Usually this meant playing in front of just the other musicians that turned up to play too.

So we have set up a night where musicians can play a good set of around five or six songs on a good in house PA and usually in front of a good size audience who are there to listen and to be part of the night. Hence the fact anyone (including the artist) can come along and vote for whom they preferred on the night, their winner gets £50 of Dawsons vouchers that they can spend in any Dawsons Music Stores.

The voting is of a bit of fun as the night is focused on quality and the artist can showcase their ability and maybe even sell a few CD’s! We have found since doing this night the voting has attracted more people as they have said it makes them feel part of what is going on.

Please read the rules below and just to make a finer point about them they have been set up this way to encourage more acoustic, singer/songwriters to come along and have a really good night, we’d prefer all budding Tom Morello’s to apply for one of the Friday or Saturday dates!!!

After an exceptional first year we have been joined by Dawsons Music Stores to make the night even better!

Please read the following... these are the rules of Sounds Unplugged!

About Sounds Unplugged...

Limitations are simple; the only electric instruments allowed are:

Bass guitars

Keyboards (keyboards must represent an acoustic instrument / NO synth patches).

Lap Steel Guitars

Any other instrument has to be acoustic or electro acoustic.

Amount of artist playing at once is purely restricted to the size of the stage.

Everyone who takes part will arrive no later than 7.45pm to find out an allotted time in a draw that will be done at 7.45pm (sound checks from 7pm – Earlier by appointment) If the artist arrives late there is the possibility that they forfeit their draw and will have to go on at 8.30pm - artists arriving after 8.45pm will miss their slot for that week and will have to re-apply for a new date.

Your audience is your judge that you have to please with a 20 minute set. If you go over the allocated 20 minutes you can be deducted votes per minute or at the adjudicator’s discretion. If you start late you still have to finish in your given time frame. (Unless it’s a technical problem on the venues behalf) A PA and up to three Microphones will be provided on the night – Please bring your own instrument leads.

Everyone (including the artists) has a right to vote on the night. Anyone wishing to vote has to have been in for the first act. No voting slips will be given out after the first act. An adjudicator will be an independent member of staff on the night.

The voting slip will be numbered 1 – 3 where each voter will have 1 vote on the night. The artist/s with the most votes will win £50 in Dawsons Vouchers on the night.

Every person who participates will be entitled to free drinks after they have played*

The First act will be on at 8.30pm Second act 9pm Third act 9.30pm

Winner from 10.15pm

The winner will finish the night with a winning set that can be the same set as previously played or different but has to be finished by 11pm.

Entrance to sounds unplugged will be by message via this myspace site.

*tokens given on the night/or at the landlord/landlady’s discretion.

All winners go through to a winners heats stage, the winners from there go through to a semi final stage.

The winners of the semi finals will be on the final night where a cash prize will be given between the winners of Sounds Unplugged 2008.
