The symphony evolved from Italian opera overture in the early 18th century, it was an orchestral piece in 3 movements; fast, slow, fast. It was played to introduce the opera with the 3 sections becoming separate, early German composer’s added effects which Haydn and Mozart took and evolved this idea. One of these ideas was to use quick, aggressive rhythmic themes going from low to high register with a lot of speed; this became known as the Rocket theme. Another idea is to use drawn-out crescendos slowly gathering force as they rise to a climax; this was known as a steamroller effect.
