South29 cuts right through the heart of Virginia leaving its audiences awash in a simmering blend of a RAW in-your-FACE ROCKin' BLUES-a-DELIC music. With their first full length CD in the works, this group of classically trained musicians lays down tracks channeling the great blues men of years past with their own style of right-between-the-eyes riffs. South29 infuses the talents of six-string guitar slinger Chase Tanner, drummer Jason Ward, vocalist Wave Milor and bassists John Keefe. In their musical endeavors, South29's members have collectively crossed paths with the likes of Tinsley Ellis, Wes Jeans, The Nighthawks, Lance Lopez, North Mississippi Allstars, Tom Principato, Sean Costello, and Debbie Davies. In their unique fusion of blues, funk, rock and soul, S29 brings it to the stage, night after night, heavy and solid.
Chase, a Lynchburg, Virginia native has been touted by local and national acts as one of the next up and coming blues guitarists in the US. He bends and twists modern day riffs like barbed wire around traditional Texas style blues dropping every jaw in the house at their live shows. Influences include, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Wes Jeans, Lance Lopez and Joe Bonamassa. Chase plays Fender guitars with Fender and Marshall amplification.
Residing in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Jason brings a rich musical history to the band’s lineup. Jason lays down the lowest, dirtiest beats possible keeping time “Bonham style” with a big right foot and bone cracking back beats. Influences include, Staunton Moore, John Bonham, Chad Smith, Steve Jordan and Manu Katche. Jason plays Drum Workshop drums, Vic Firth sticks and Sabian cymbals.
John, of Richmond, Virginia completes the rhythm section with his slap-a-delic style to the bass guitar. A transplant from the Greensboro, NC jamm band scene, John fills the S29 low-end frequencies with his unique brand of 5 string soul. John’s influences include Flea, Oteil Burbridge, Galactic, NMAS, Larry Graham, James Brown and Bootsy Collins. John plays Warrior, Music Man and Fender P basses with SWR amplification.
S29’s newest member, Wave Milor brings 20 plus years as a vocalist and front man to the new line-up. Wave’s harmonica skills have taken him all over the US to perform at festivals such as the Bele Chere Festival in 2007, King Biscuit Blues Festival in 2005 and Copenhagen, Denmark in 2003. Wave was honored with nominations from the Washington Area Music Association for Best Male Blues Vocalist in 2007 and for Best Blues Recording in 2006 for his band’s CD that featured 10 of his original tunes. Influences include Howlin’ Wolf, RL Burnside, Johnny Winter, Charlie Musselwhite, Junior Kimbrough, Hendrix and The Black Keys. Wave uses Hohner Marine Band harps, Epiphone amps and vintage, custom Shure harp mics.
