All bigotry is related and interdependent, and contributes to the worst social ills, and dehumanizing those with disabilities through language and thought is the first step on a slippery slope.
Besides confusing people:
Disability Studies, Disability Rights, Medical Anthropology, Architecture, and Sudoku addict.
Reposting the embed for my film "The Ghost at the Banquet."
Music
So much music, so little time. ANYTHING WITH A SOUL! This can be metal, rap, and even some country, though as a rule, country is too much of "I got low self esteem and I'm a gonna sing about it."
Movies
Donnie Darko, Interview with the Vampire, A Trip to Bountiful, Dune, Flash Gordon, Grand Canyon, What the Bleep Do We Know, The X-Men Series, Blade, Little Buddha, anything by Alfred Hitchcock, anything by Bertolucci, anything by Danny Boyle. And my cult movies are Xanadu, Dante's Peak (best comedy ever), Summer Lovers, and The Great Muppet Caper. And Believe in Me because my girl spawn is in it. :)
A special thank you to Michael Moore. Thanks for the advice. :)
Television
Besides CNN and Keith Olbermann:
Alive Shows: NIP/TUCK, The Closer, Heroes, Saving Grace, and I'm mildly obsessed with "How Clean is Your House."
Dead Shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Twin Peaks.
Books
Animal Farm, Bless Me Ultima, Memnoch the Devil, The Lord of the Flies, Flowers for Algernon, Riding the Bus with My Sister, 1984, Slaughterhouse Five, The Fountainhead, Watership Down, Thinking in Pictures, Like Water for Chocolate, The Bourne Supremacy, Moby Dick, The Color Purple, The Bluest Eye, Holy Cow, American Exorcism, Naked Lunch, The Witchcraft of Salem Village (and anything else by Shirley Jackson).
Of course Eyes of Desire 2.
If a book is banned it immediately makes me want to read it, as well as anything that challenges current popular concepts of sex, gender, "race," and disability, and the intertwining of these concepts which all too often results in binary ways of thinking.
MICHEL FOUCAULT IS A GOD.
Heroes
There are too many to mention. But I will say it would be great to see a Mohandes K. Gandhi High School ANYWHERE in the States open.
Fluent in ASL and French, speak a little German, pasta lover, citizen of the world. :)
Recently got published... gimme a "do what?" about it. ;)
Ich bin jetzt ein professionelles documentarian und ein Drehbuchautor.
LET'S MAKE EVERY MONTH AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH.
AWARENESS not "cure." Change yourself.
Who I'd like to meet: Open minded guy with a caveat: No tolerance for bigotry of ANY kind.
I mean this quite literally: I hate ALL the phobias and "isms."
If you regularly rant about "illegals" or "the terrorists" or tell gay jokes, or regularly refer to people using offensive remarks about people with disabilities, or you can only make yourself feel good by making fun of people who you think are "beneath you": we ain't gonna get along.
If you are a bigot, stay and be educated, or move along little doggie. ;)
Hey ya Tex!! Just stopping by to say hello. I sure wish we were there, I'm so tired of rain! We have a great day planned for tomorrow. Here's a big ole Hoosier hug for all of you!
You had a b- day and I missed it? I'm so sorry! Happy belated, Dear! What is this I'm seeing in the news about Rachel Ray getting crap for wearing a scarf that is from some other country and therefore makes her a bloodthirsty anti- American lunatic? I right away thought of you and your similar dilema.
Oh on the whole pretty good. However just lost my rag with a 'no' person, seems people either have a 'knee jerk' psychologically programmed 'yes' or 'no' response!!!
Not that I'm putting people in boxes (other than the boxes they lock themself in) but it seems people can be categorised into a binary system of 'yes' or 'no'.
Not that it would bother me but I seem to evoke a 'no' response often (more often than probability/stats would suggest) and often from those closest to me; it's a plague upon my life and has been discussed in therapy ;)
Hey Naked Boy. Whatz up? I ran into BM yesterday at Napoli's. She said you been hanging around her place on Mondays. Maybe, I'll come for a chat next week.
Hey Buddy! Things are cra-zee up here in the great, white north. Gary is doing great. His paintings are becoming extremely popular and he's even had a couple of art shows. We lure people in with his beautiful colors and then surprise them with some autism awareness...lol (Not that crap that they usually hear, but the truth about how awesome people who think differently are.) If you're ever on Facebook you should check out his art site...It's called 'GaryArt'. Hope all is well out your way...(I have been reading your blogs...)
Mmmm - Zucchini! Um, Corky, I think maybe you should think about getting a good hobby. It seems you have a little too much time on your hands. Thilly Thucchini Thtroker!!
