"The Southern Cradle have mastered the art of writing great singles early on" The Plastic Ashtray (2006).
"a rich texture of guitar plucking interweaved with emotion-laden vocals which tug at you in the way that only bands like this can" Punktastic.com (2006).
"If i’m honest, one of the best things about my job is receiving CDs like The Southern Cradle’s On Strike At The Rumour Mill" Punktastic.com (2006).
The Southern Cradle formed at a Wildhearts show, and following a couple of bandless years in the wilderness of higher learning we wanted to start making music again, honest music, free of all the hipster cliches currently dancing ironically in our field of vision.
Over the last couple of years we’ve put out three EP’s (The Southern Cradle, On Strike At The Rumour Mill and Painting Shadows) and a split 7” with our friends The Arcane Parade (see our top friends!) on our own Summer Solace Recordings label. We've also featured on numerous compilations most notably put out by Punktastic.com/Banquet Records and had the privilege of sharing the stage with some great (and probably more not so great) bands of which there are too many to name but our top friends is again a good place to start (for some of the good ones, obviously).
2009 will see some big changes in the band, we’re currently working on new songs and are looking forward to getting out and playing again as soon as possible, see you soon.
"This is a bold and exciting sign of things to come. With any luck, both of these bands will very soon be eclipsing their more over-rated contemporaries. Watch them, and watch them closely." Rockmidgets.com (2008)
"TSC: Spirited with their performance, the band have a deep melodic heart with a raw exterior recalling Jawbox & Leatherhead, TAP: spiralling guitars and spluttered verses with the kneejerk frenetic qualities of early Rocket From The Crypt (sans horns) - A SUBBA-CULTCHA.COM SINGLE OF THE MONTH" Subba-Cultcha.com (2008)
"Both bands have tons of potential and this is one split single that actually works in favour of both bands" [the-mag] (2008)
