July 12th sees the release of "DJ Lyke presents SouTHErn Suspects Beat Robbers Volume 1". Holla at your boys for a CD. Will be stocked exclusively at Rprznt (Brighton) - http://www.rprznt.co.uk
The lyrical voices of the group are Nemma, Silable and LJ. DJ Off-Key operates the 1s and 2s whilst King-Pin is the man behind the production. SouTHErn Suspects hail from London and East Grinstead, repping the mighty UK. From their humble beginnings at university culture shows to performing live on national radio, they have evolved with each year to become a highly respected outfit.
The style of music is refreshing and dynamic. With the production of King-Pin complementing the talented writing and performance of Nemma, Silable and LJ, they have created a sound that can be appreciated by many.
It was the summer of 2002 that the group was formed. At that time, most of the group were studying in Brighton and enjoying the change of scene from London. A chance introduction to King-Pin brought everyone together as music enthusiasts. Nemma, Silable and LJ provided the rhymes for a track King-Pin and Si-Fi co-produced which was later performed at Sussex University’s culture show. The reaction to the performance was immense and made the decision to form the SouTHErn Suspects a straight forward one.
With the introduction of DJ Off-Key, the Hip-Hop formula had been completed; the MC and the DJ. The group’s first big break came when they headlined Brighton University’s Fresher's Ball. Since then, Suspects have performed many shows around the UK and sharing the stage with some of UK’s finest talent. For example, opening up for the legendary Blade at Concorde 2 in Brighton and sharing the stage with Chester P of Task Force and Roots Manuva at Radio 1Xtra’s Homegrown Weekender. They have also been regular participants at Brighton Hip-Hop Festival’s annual live day.
The group announced their intentions with the release of “1st Coming Mixtape” which received strong support. The only way is up for the group as the production from King-Pin and guest producers such as Show N Prove along with the clever lyrics and catchy hooks on 1st Coming captured the imaginations of many.
SouTHErn suspects are available for bookings.
