Equality Now was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses.
Humane Society of the US
The mission of The HSUS is to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals that will also benefit people and forge a lasting and comprehensive change in human consciousness of and behavior toward all animals in order to prevent animal cruelty, exploitation, and neglect, and to protect wild habitats and the entire community of life.
** Can't Stop the Serenity **
Each year, screenings of the movie Serenity are held worldwide to raise money for charity. Last year, screenings were held around the world in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and the U.S, raising over $100,000.
For those of you who are new to Firefly and/or Serenity, Firefly was an amazing, but sadly short-lived TV series created by Joss Whedon. Firefly was prematurely cancelled by Fox, despite winning an Emmy and gaining a tremendous fan following. The series is out on DVD and I urge anyone unfamiliar with the show to check it out. The movie, Serenity (aka "The Big Damn Movie") wrapped up many of the loose ends left by the show's premature cancellation.
"There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That's me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That's a great deal harder, and that's Equality Now. It's not about politics; it's about basic human decency."
-Joss Whedon
"All of us at Equality Now continue to be amazed by and grateful for the Browncoats' and Serenity fans' generous and committed support for our work. Their energy and enthusiasm is inspiring and these screenings are coming at a critical time when we are especially in need of funds! We thank each and every one of them and Happy Birthday to Joss!"

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog DVD was released to (non-Amazon) retailers Tuesday. Best Buy brick and mortar stores have it. Anyone seen it elsewhere?
I checked one Target and one Wal-Mart. No luck. It wasn't in the new release section at Best Buy. I found it in the TV section under D. When I left they had one less and there were some in the new release section and the TV section under D. It is a new release...probably just sold out in that section.
Reports coming in Dr. Horrible has also been seen at FYE. According to http://bashinginminds.com , Doc is also available now online at Barnes & Noble, Borders, DeepDiscount.com, Walmart, Best Buy and other retailers. Netflix now has it.
Doc twittered that Blockbusters online has it...their stores may also have it.
Some places can order it without a shipping charge to their brick and mortar store.
Know anybody in Canada? Doc been seen at HMV and Metro Video.

Quantum Mechanix (QMx) is sponsoring the “Name the Crappy Town Where You’re a Hero” charity auction. Starting April 26th, 50 town names will be auctioned via eBay with all proceeds going to Equality Now. If you win an auction, your name will be submitted, and pending studio approval, will be used in the upcoming official Atlas of the 'Verse, Volume One: The Trader's Guild Guide to the New Canaan Run made by our favorite mild-manner graphic designer, Ben Mund. The auctions are being hosted by Austin Browncoats. More information, including links to each eBay auction can be found here: http://www.austinbrowncoats.com/crappytown.php. Questions can be sent to info@austinbrowncoats.com with the subject "Crappy Town Question".
