SOUTHLANDS: nascono nella provincia di Pavia nell'autunno del
2000, quando al trio composto da Roberto Semini alle chitarre,
Michele Romani alla batteria e Riccardo Caldin al basso si
uniscono Dario Savini alla voce e Marco Rovino alle chitarre. Il
feeling è immediato e, grazie anche alle loro diverse esperienze
musicali, emerge quel sound, mix di rock blues, roots rock e
rock’n’roll, che caratterizza fortemente la band. La loro
principale fonte di ispirazione sono sicuramente i grandi nomi del
rock americano d’autore e del rock blues quali Bruce Springsteen,
Steve Earle, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd ecc. ma non disdegnano di
proporre cover di altri artisti cosiddetti “minori” (ma solo nelle
vendite) di cui la provincia americana negli ultimi anni è una
vera fucina. Ecco quindi spuntare nella scaletta dei loro concerti
anche brani di Crish Knight, Say Zuzu, Stephen Bruton, Storyville…
Durante questi anni la band ha all’attivo numerose date nei locali
del nord e sud Italia e partecipazioni a festival in Italia e in
Svizzera. Queste esperienze comuni e la voglia di “dire la
propria” portano all’uscita, nel febbraio 2009, del loro primo
disco composto interamente da brani inediti intitolato “The
Morning Sky”. La produzione del disco è stata affidata a Massimo
Visentin (collaboratore di Paolo Conte) con l’etichetta
“Studiottanta Fortuna Records” e distribuzione Venus. L’album
riceve ottime recensioni sulle principali riviste del settore
(Buscadero, Folk Bullettin, Roots Highway, Rockline…) e ciò
contribuisce sicuramente alla vincita del concorso “Obiettivo
Bluesin” che porterà la band ad esibirsi sul palco principale del
Pistoia Blues Festival 2009 al fianco di artisti quali P.F.M. e
Larry Carlton. I Southlands sono ora già al lavoro per la
realizzazione del secondo disco prevista per il 2010.
SOUTHLANDS: they were born in the countryside of the city of Pavia
(South of Milan) in Fall 2000, when the vocalist Dario Savini and
guitarist Marco Rovino joined a trio composed by Roberto Semini
(guitar), Michele Romani(drums) and Riccardo Caldin (bass guitar).
The feeling between them was immediately achieved in spite of the
differences in their previous music experiences and that is
probably the reason of the "sound" merging rock blues, roots rock
and rock..n..roll that you can find in the production of the band.
The main source of inspiration for the band are of course the
great american songwriters and rock blues band as Bruce
Springsteen, Steve Earle, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd ecc.., but
between them the band starts also to play song written by
songwriters coming from the “small towns” spread across the U.S.,
maybe not so famous as the previous mentioned but equally great
(Crish Knight, Say Zuzu, Stephen Bruton, Storyville)
The wish of writing their own song brings the band, in february
2009, to realize their first original album called “The morning
sky” produced by Massimo Visentin of "Studiottanta Fortuna
Records", and distrubuted by Venus. The CD gets many great reviews
on the most important dedicated magazines (Buscadero, Folk
Bullettin, Roots Highway, Rockline…) and this aids the band to win
a contest that allows them to play on the prestigious stage of
“Pistoia Blues Festival 2009” side by side of artist as P.F.M. and
Larry Carlton. Southlands are now already working on their next
record off in 2010.

Marco and Southlands, Hello from Austin. I listened to your record yesterday and it was wonderful. I really like that style of rock. Best record I heard recently since Kings of Leon.
