South of Shaw was fashioned in the dry Fresno summer of 2000, by then bass player, Bob Amendola. After realizing he possessed a certain knack for writing catchy hooks and unforgettable melodies, he decided to shelve the bass and switched to guitar. South of Shaw then recruited vocalist Kyle Palmer. His distinct vocal style and explosive energy on stage added an excitement and fire to the band. . Pieces of the puzzle started falling into place with the addition of veteran bass player Rich Villanueva , bringing a full bottom end to the band. Finally, rounding out the group was Dana Pellerin on drums, whos furious and dynamic drumming set the stage for the bands certain positive future.
In 2004 South of Shaw got their break into the spotlight. The first show of the year with good friends Army of Freshmen sold out in an hour. From there, South of Shaw landed shows with Allister, Over It, and Never Heard of It. Shortly after having built quite the resume for being such a young band, South of Shaw began opening shows for Fallout Boy, Bayside, Amour For Sleep, and The Academy Is.. Fans were finally being exposed to the high energy and emotion that South of Shaw had been notorious for pulling for years.
The band started 2005 by playing 2 sold out shows with Hawaiian superstars Pepper. With huge momentum, South of Shaw started a 19 day California tour by opening a huge show with Sum 41, then touring with Ventura's Army of Freshmen and Chicago's Split Habit.
South of Shaw continued on in 2006, releasing their landmark EP, "June". The EP, which was cut mainly as a demo for booking purposes, virtually flew out of the bands hands, selling through the first run in 5 days simply on word of mouth. After ordering another run of disks, the band began supporting the album with shows throughout California. The highlight of the year came at Christmas when South of Shaw was asked to play for a sold out show of 3000 people at the historic Warnors Theater, sharing the bill with Angels & Airwaves, 30 Seconds to Mars, and The Ataris.
Having built quite the reputation for putting on an intense, entertaining live show, South of Shaw kicked off the new year with an invitation to share the stage with Unwritten Law before retreating to the studio. The band continues to move on writing and recording for the much anticipated full length album,and has accompanied the task of the writing process with a huge one off show with +44 (mark and travis from Blink 182). With the full support of Central California surf shop/clothing appearal ESTEEM, S.O.S has huge plans to deliver their sound to the ears of everyone and anyone far away and in between. The new album is currently in the recording process and has had the help of Zebrahead lead singer Matty Lewis, and Members of Army of Freshmen to help release the biggest, loudest most fan friendly album to date.
In the summer of 2007, after 7 years of ups, downs, sicknesses, success, departures and arrivals, South of Shaw finally said goodbye to the music world by playing their last live show with +44. Now known as HART BRAKE KID, the band has new members, all new music, and will be releasing new music very shortly. Stay tuned.............
