Its all about straight up Hip Hop classics all the way. The more Funk, Soul and Jazz influenced, the better.
I've lived in Sussex my whole life and been in Brighton for 8 years. Left college and worked in a record store (Bang Music) in Brighton for 3 years running the Hip Hop and DJ gear, which meant sneaking off on buying missions to NYC and Amsterdam. I'm now working in London, but living the hip hop life.
Been into DJing turntablism for 8 years now and part of the Illtech foundation, made up of DJ Southpaw, DJ Foly, DJ Extract, DJ OMC, The Tipster, Mr Krum, Marxman, Whitey, Zilla and Gee Wiz.
I started playing out with Foly in various pubs in the Lewes scene, but then with the return of the Tipster and Extract we played out regularly with the Illtech crew in a 4 deck/mixer set up with a live MPC scratch band.
I'm a co-founder of Positivity, a local Brighton club night, focussing on a party vibe playing classic US hip hop, funk, soul and breaks. We've had 6 sucessful nights in 2008 and will be coming back in the Spring 2009 with the realness, keep an eye out for invites.
Also check out the other Illtech members and look out for the website and new tracks in 2009.
Respect to my man Extract, the drum lover, the constantly evolving producer, his beats are sick by the way...
Mad props to DJ Foly, the Safety Man, Groundskeeper Willy and Godfather of the Illtech foundation, his cuts are the dopest styles!
Word up to Marxman, Whitey, Zilla, Gee Wiz, the men on the mic, the frontmen of the Illtech foundation.
Big up to Mr Krum, the always constant hook up of new sounds, the crate invader and vinyl junkie. He has the illest beats and graphic designs, be sure to check them out!
Peace to OMC, the constantly evolving turntablist/producer, his lame record collection makes me sick! Although keep an eye open for his beats, they are ill!
Respect to the Tipster, the pussy chasing, old man veteran of the Brighton Hip Hop scene. A true friend and a total slut bitch! Yeah and his record collection, suck my balls Tip!
Much love to my girl Bex, the true Illtech widow and dedicated photographer, keep gettitng those bad shots of Foly! x x
